Dear Members.

My name is Adonis Paxon, I have had the luxury and luck of coming accross a bike in the garage sale.

Not knowing anything about bikes I purchased it because I thought it was neat that it came with its own Pump.

I have considered restoring it, and have just looked on e-bay and a seller has brand new decals for it (asking 45 usd).

I am wondering what you guys think this bike is worth in its present condition, and fully re-stored to mint* * that may include a new paint job with the original paint color.

the bike also needs a tail light cover, not sure if the lightbulb turns on.

I have riden it, its nice, may require a tune up also. :-) either way. I anticipate many replies the more the marrier, who knows I might be inclined to sell it here or on e-bay somehow.

I can provide a video to potential buyers in this forum. The picture here does not have the pump, I have the pump.

I wouldn't touch the paint or decals, they look to be in great shape from that picture.

Paint is the opposite of restore. And you spend serious $$ to lower the value of the bike.

I had one in that color, that was a very beautiful and unique color.

+1 maybe worth $200, depending where you live.

This bike looks just great for its age appears all original with everyting fenders rack leather saddle light. I Wouldn't change much of anything on this bike unless your 100 percent sure then think again. While not a high end bike this one is just great and should get $400 in most big markets maybe more auctioned on ebay or else where to the right buyer.

It is neat. What size are the wheels? It looks like a UE 8, but the children's ones had smaller wheels. It is hard to get much of a sense of scale from the photos.

I would not repaint, unless there are serious issues that do not show up in your photos. It looks pretty good, and you will not recoup your investment in a pro level paint job (at least 250$). BTW, I would not use the term "mint". It gets overused; sometimes bikes have "mint" rust.

Why do you think the bicycle is a PX50? In my book, it appears to be a French made Peugeot UE8, the touring version of the UO8...

Do not repaint the bicycle! Doing so will lower the value! Before you make the final decision to paint, you should take a look through Should I Paint My Bicycle? Doing so might prove to be an eye opener for you and help save you a fair chunk of change, frustration and wasted time.

Definitely do not repaint. Decals don't need anything either. Bike is perfect as is.

As for value, I think a UE-8 in such time capsule condition, with all the original fenders and lights working, could fetch $300+ on eBay, well presented with lots of detailed pictures after a thorough clean and polish. On Craigslist in an expensive market, with detailed pictures linked, maybe similar. Basically you're looking for that one person who had exactly that bike when he was a lad and likes to buy himself the nicest of everything. Just throw it up on average Craiglist with a crummy pic, maybe $100+.

It is not a sticker, so am not sure if that makes a difference, is there a way I can determine the model based on the serial? and on this bike should the serial number be right underneath, in the usual spot near the pedals?

It is a mass produced Peugeot UE8 that I would estimate to be a 76-77 model based on the decals, headbadge, and brakes. They were produced in massive numbers and are by no means rare and the purple colour may be one of the least common which might add some value to someone who grew up watching Barney.

In mint condition and by mint I mean, with no flaws or evidence of ever being ridden it might fetch $400.00 which would be at the high end of things in a crazed market and more likely will fetch $250.00 - $300.00 to someone who just had to have it.

These were an entry level bicycle that sold for around $110.00 new when your entry level racing bicycle sold for $350.00 - $400.00... if it was a PX10 racing bicycle in mint condition it could fetch 4 figures but it is a UE8 which makes it worth a little more than a UO8 because of the excellent mudguards, rack, and lights.

I love these bikes and have owned a few and restored and refitted countless numbers of these bicycles and very nice examples with upgraded wheel sets and cranks have brought me as much as $275.00 and looked as nice as yours.

If I had a bike like this roll into my shop I'd sell it for around $250.00 and this would be after it received a complete overhaul and would not buy a bike like this for more than $100.00 because of the amount of time and work I put into bikes I sell.

We need a donation jar in here so at the end of the day we can all go for a cold beer after dispensing advice... :D

You are definitely misinformed about the value of the bicycle.

800 what? It might be worth 800 something, but certainly not 800 U.S. Dollars.

Okay so it seems the range is under 300.

I think my neighbour wants to buy it and has offered me 30 dollars (cad). but I first have to fix the tail light. How much is a tail light for these things like 5 bucks or something?

$30.00 might be a little low... if you picked this bike up for $22.00 you scored well as they are nice bicycles and have a lot of charm to them.

30 is waylow even if the tail light is out.

800 is way high (as you have found).

Local sale here (Richmond, Va) would be in the 150-250 range. Prices can be higher in some urban areas, mostly major metropolitan areas.

Don't feel bad about the misidentification. Peugeots are notorious for being mis identified. It is incredibly common.

The proper tail light for that bike will cost you at least $50 in North America. Not sure what it would cost in European markets. Finding such a tail light in North America will be a trick in itself. I will add that they do come up for sale on Ebay but not for five bucks.

If you are going to sell the bike, settle for no less than $150.00 and hope for $200.00. Other than that, I can offer very little advice.

Dang, I have one of these in primo shape. Here it is with handle bars from a Mobley and Phil Wood 27" wheels.

This is the best handling bike I own. The generator has it's own fender!
