1972 Schwinn Continental
I inherited an orange Schwinn Continental a few years back. Based on the serial number it should be a 1972. Does anyone have an idea on what its worth? It also needs new tires and tubing. Any additional input would be greatly appreciated. Collectiblility? Cost to restore? Cool facts? Thanks!

Here is a link to the 72 catelog, just for grins and giggles.

Old Schwinns are highly collectable if in very good condition. The trick is to find a collector in your area. There are Schwinn specific forums online that might be a better source of prospective buyers. If its in poor condition - well, at least in my sandbox, there is a LOT of older Contis and Varsities in poor condition.
To the average buyer looking for a bike, its a limited market. Its like selling a 70 Chevelle Malibu. The over 40 will recognize it and see the potential. The under 40 will ask if you have any Subarus. The trick it to find that average buyer who has an emotional attachment to a Conti. Otherwise, depending on condition, maybe $50-$100 tops?

They made millions of them, so no to the collectibility. But people like them, and they tend to get a premium over similar equipped and built bikes from the same era.

I just picked up a new 1992 RB-1 Frame and fork tonight from a friend. Never built up. few nicks in the paint, from moving from one side of the basement to the other.
