Beekay top 10 - Worth asking price?
Hey guys,
I'm a noobie when it comes to road bikes. I'm looking for a beginners bike for recreational use.
I came across this used bike posting in Toronto and am wondering if this is a good deal or not.

Can anyone provide any insight on this bike? Is it a decent deal for 180?

Constant tinkerer
It's a stretch at $180 but not terrible. Being all tuned up with new cables, tires, etc means a lot and is the only reason I'd consider this one worth the money.
Most important question is, does it fit you? How tall are you? Google bike fit and don't buy a bike that doesn't fit. It won't do you much good.

Jack of all trades
Turkey levers, stem shifters, claw rear derailleur all make the bike worth about $125 in super, excellent, paint-is-immaculate, condition. If not, offer them $95, then walk away. If the wheels, bottom bracket and headset need servicing, it's going to cost you over $100 to get it in rideable condition.

In Toronto, yes. Almost anywhere else, no way. Typical entry level bike from the boom, very basic.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

I have a Beekay Racer that was given to me. The stem shifters are unusual as when the front shifter is pulled back, the derailleur is over the small ring. When the front shifter is upright, the derailleur is over the big ring. They are Shimano fingertip shifters. I think it is the heaviest bike I have, It's gotta weigh over 35 pounds.
In my market, I could probably get $65.00 at the most. In Hamilton, it could fetch a hundred on a good day. Toronto is another world altogether! My advice is to keep looking.
