Rossin Columbus, what is it and what is it worth?

I got this bike in a trade and I have very little information on it. It is a Rossin and has the Columbus sticker on it. Forgive my newbie vocab, but I don't know all of the bike parts, so I will do my best.

Cinelli stem
Specialized handlebars
Shimano SLR brake levers
Shimano 105 brakes.
Shimano 600 pedals with Christophe straps.
Avocet seat.
SR Laprade seat post.
Suntour Sprint Derailleur
Tires are IRC Triathlon Duro 700 x20C Hybrid KV Belted
Mavic rims.
Campagnolo shifters

Thank you for your help, I greatly appreciate it.

Great paint, parts are nice, but all over the map. So you have yourself a part out. Sold as is, it will bring what the frame is worth, then the buyer will likely sell off the parts, and rebuild it with consistent, high end components. So if you sell it complete, you are basically giving the parts away for free.

If you have the time/tools/aptitude, I would part it out and sell on ebay. Sprint derailleurs, Avocet saddle, Cinelli stem, 600 crankset, 600 pedals, Campy levers, etc., all have some value.

Search completed auctions on Rossin frameset for recent pricing.

Well, a quick check of ebay did not show much action on Rossins. Hopefully someone else will wade in with an estimate.

Should I pay someone to take it apart? What would be reasonable to pay for that service?
If I want to take it apart, how much money would I have to spend on tools? Is it really difficult to take apart?
Do you think those parts were all originally on the bike ? I was told the bike was $1500 new. Thank you so much.

I would GUESS that the frame would bring around $200 - $250 on eBay. This might actually sell best as a complete local sale, depending on your market. I think you could get $400 - $450 (Maybe as much as $500) for it in a decent market locally with a good ad.

Do NOT pay for that - any benefit will be lost by the fee.

+1 Unfortunately, paying someone to disassemble will cost as much as the parts will sell for. Selling locally really depends on where you live, and ebay can be a PITA, lots of issues there that we seem to discuss every month or so.

In an average market, nicer vintage bikes don't bring full value. More and more, its where I end up being a buyer. Now in a hot (and larger) market, you could do better finding someone who appreciates the bike. And of course, lots of the value comes from your marketing effort.

Agree that it's probably worth between $400 to $500 as a whole bike. Probably around $600 if you part it out.

Jessicazi, where do you live? A member might be able to help you take it apart.

I am in the Seattle/Tacoma area. I think dealing locally is best as I don't want to deal with shipping and hopefully someone will want the whole bike.

Thank you for your help.

That's a pretty hot market. It's an eye catcher, so I'd think it should sell fairly quickly for $500.

If your not bike savvy, or don't have the time to take it apart; just sell it as a complete. Just wait for the right buyer..

If you do get to take it apart, you have to realize that you will need to clean or maybe even overhaul (change bearings, re-lubricate) those components to get the best money out of them. You will be surprised how people will be less likely to pay for good parts that are just in need of a cleaning or a little TLC.
Having a bike shop do that can most likely offset any gains you might get from it. If you don't want to do the wrenching at all on it, I think the best course of action will be to clean up the bike yourself as much as you can and just sell it "as-is" as a whole bike. Still try to hook up with maybe a friend/relative that is bike savvy enough to generally look over the bike and give you some tips to at least get it to a good state for selling. Otherwise, you can also ask your techinical questions on this board and learn as you go.

Comment indicates you are really not skilled or that knowledgable with "bikes" so recommend sell it as is (ask $350, take $250 or better) or just ride and enjoy it as is (it should be an excellent rider despite the mismatch of some of the components) if it fits you and ignore other advice to upgrade it or part it out...imho.

To me the red paint areas look resprayed or touched up with an airbrush or rattlecans...and somewhat poorly executed as the paint is clearly failing...on the pix of headtube, you can see overspray on the shifters and poor masking on the shifter studs. Same for the chainstays. All the white paint looks sharp and tight. Still a nice bike that should sell or ride well. Overall, nicely fall'in into!!!

Mario Rossin was Colnagos chief frame builder until he started his own company in 1973. I don't think the bikes have much of a reputation in the US but they are very well thought of in Europe. A nice frame set will bring $1200-1500. Ed
