vitus 979

Just picked up this very nice Vitus 979 with a Campy group set. Must not have been used much, rides very nice. I've heard all the horror stories about the frame falling apart, not worried. Probably paid to much, but couldn't pass it up....

Nice score, and welcome aboard! Feel free to share some larger photos in the main C&V thread. From what I've read, the Vitus horror stories are somewhat exaggerated.

The problems tend to be isolated on the larger bikes, I believe. This one is not.

A thourough check before buying is a good idea.

Hello welcome to the forums.

Victory? You don't see that on a Vitus often. I agree on the failure issue, I never saw or heard of a catastophic failure leading to serious death or injury. I only ever saw one 'broken' Vitus and the had a few cracks around the bottom of the lower head lug. I did see a Alan like this where the seat tube pulled out of the BB but the owner took a rock to it and rode home. then SuperGlued or something.

I dare say more riders were more likely injured by over zealous "Drillium" practices

You're right, Victory and now there should be a bigger pic...

My son has been riding a 979 for a couple years and it's been a great bike. Living in Minnesota my sons bike lives in the basemnet in the winter months to avoid exposing the frame to extreme cold temps that might harm the joints.

I have seen a couple on E-bay with scary repair jobs to frames involving drilling holes in lugs and running screws into them.
