MINT early 80's PEUGEOT Road Bike - all original, superb paint

Last time i missed out on a Fuji s10, and i will not make the same mistake. I am not an expert, so i need your help. The seller wants $150, is it worth $150? Is it a classic peugeot? Or a lower end peugeot? Thanks

Looks to be one of Peugeot's entry level models, either a Club or a Sport. I have owned several Sports and a couple of Clubs. The bikes weigh in the neighborhood of 30 pounds. They will offer a recreational ride quality, at best but riding the bikes is both fun and rewarding, providing one does not expect too much in the performance arena.

As for value, that would depend on many things, few of which have been shared in this thread. With that in mind, if buying to own, $100 to $150 is not unreasonable. If buying to flip, forget it. $100 would be way too much to pay. You can learn more about how to determine an old bike's value by looking through Vintage Bicycle Value, if you are interested. You might also want to spend a moment looking at some of the qualities presented by the Peugeot Sport model...

Hope that is a help.

To avoid making the same mistake, why not educate yourself on what makes a quality bike, and what they are worth. Then you will be ready to pounce when a deal pops up. The really good deals do not last long enough in this price range to get an answer: "Hey is this one a good deal?"

Now, is this one worth $150? If it is ready to ride, yes. But it is entry level, as others have pointed out. In general, at least around here, Peugeots get a strong response in the market. Do you want an entry level bike, or are you hoping to get something better?

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

The subject bicycles has centre-pull brakes with what appears to be a Huret Eco rear derailleur. This should make it a circa 1983-1984 model P8, though the colour scheme and decals don't match the catalogs. Regardless, it is an entry level model. Price is fair for most markets, provided it requires no work. However, be aware that if it is a P8 from the subject era, it may have a Maillard Helicomatic rear hub, in which case extra care should be taking in inspecting it. Spare parts for these hubs are are becoming very hard to find.

It appears to be a 1980 U-08, nothing special, like Tmar says, low-end and about 30lbs. You should be able to find something lighter for the money. The frame has French threading on the bottom bracket and headset. The rear derailleur is likely a heavy claw-type Simplex, as is the front derailleur. Unless you like spending big bucks on rare parts, I'd pass and look for something like a Schwinn World Sport, 25lbs, Japanese parts, easier to work on, etc.
