    1978 Trek TX 900

    I've been looking for a vintage Trek. I found a 1978 Trek TX 900. It's in my size. It has a triple, I assume that was added later.

    I'm not an expert on early Treks. Was the TX 900 the top-of-the line in 1978? What would a good condition model be worth?
    When I ride my bike I feel free and happy and strong. I'm liberated from the usual nonsense of day to day life. Solid, dependable, silent, my bike is my horse, my fighter jet, my island, my friend. Together we will conquer that hill and thereafter the world.

    Well, I pulled the trigger and purchased the TX900 in Portland. A local friend facilitated the purchase and it's at the bike shop being packed. It's a rare bike in my size. I sold a 1974 Paramount that I owned from 1975 to 2011. The TX900 will be a worthy replacement.

    Here is the CR advert and some pics;

    Yes! It's being packed at a LBS and will ship to Chicago soon.

    It was reassembled after I received it, and I rode it several times. See: 1978 Trek TX900 It has since been disassembled and the wheels and drivetrain ended up on my Simoncini and the stem, handlebars and brake levers are on my Serotta.

    I'm in the process of gathering up the parts needed to rebuild it. It's going to get a mix of Shimano 600 Arabesque and early Dura Ace with Mavic rims and hubs.
