How much would my De Rosa go for?

How much would my De Rosa go for?

Bought this off of CL and was just wondering how much it would fetch.
Came with Campy Chorus 9 speed and everything is minty fresh.

Oh and Christiano De Rosa verified this as a genuine Replica 73 via email correspondence.

Probably more than you paid. The parts while they might be correct for the time are not the most coveted, there seems to be 8 speed admirers and 10 speed followers, but the 9 gets overlooked. The frame will attract attention as it was cool at the time, a decent "replica" and a DeRosa. It appears to be about a 57 cm center to top or 56 ctc, yes?

It is a 56 ctc.

It's really hard for me to get get excited by a 1973 replica, built in the mid-1980s(?), with a very late 1990s group, especially when the frame isn't an accurate replica. One of the reasons 9 speed Chorus gets relatively little respect is because it was so short lived (1997-1999).

I believe that this bike was on the Reno CL recently and, if so, you got a very good deal on it. I would say that, considering it's condition and the parts, you could get $1500 for it as it sits. If you really want to make some money, put the frame/fork up on eBay with a BIN of $1200 and, since the frame is quite rare, I bet you will get a lot of interest. The rest of the parts can be quite valuable too, the stem alone is an easy $100.

On eBay there was a seller who had one of these for sale as a frameset with a pretty crazy price of $2975 but it didn't sell. You can cash in on his unrealistic BIN by offering yours for a lot less (plus yours is used).

Yup, I did pick it up here in Reno. I plan on holding onto it for as long as I can but who knows, I may still use Cristiano De Rosa Email verifying the frame and fork's (matching numbers with signature on the fork steerer tube) authenticity to bring it's price to $2975. LOL!

I brought back a Replica 65 frameset from Bayern for a friend several years ago.

He built it with 10 speed Chorus which is our default Campy gruppo at our favorite bike shop.

Fantastic bicycle for the money.

Looks great, rides great.

FWIW If you paid the asking price in Reno, you will have ample profit should you decide to move your Replica 73 along.

gomango, no I do not think I'll be parting with it for profit because I have already given it to my father. I also gave him my 3 Rensho since both bikes are a bit too small for me. I call it paying it forward since I am looking at some newer custom steel rides namely vanilla, gunnar and cielo.
He's already enjoying going through each and every part on both bikes. He's cleaning and cataloguing each and every part before we rebuild them.

Nice gifts.

Focus on Gunnar and Cielo.

The Vanilla order list has been closed for several years.

Bringing this thread back from the dead because i just got a Replica 73, but it's in the KAS color scheme. My internet research only points to the Molteni colors for a Replica 73. I just sent emails to Gita and De Rosa, but I figure this is worth a shot too. Anyone got any info?

This will make a great Fixie once you get the brazeons shaved off, peel the stickers and get some purple deep V velocity wheels, maybe with pink tires.

+1 to Jet Sanchez...the way to maximize money is usually as a part out (especially with that grammo stem). If you haven't sold bikes on eBay before, you won't get top dollar, nor should you expect to. To be honest, if you have to ask what it's worth, you're probably not going to get top dollar. I think top eBay dollar as a complete bike on ebay is around 1400 - 1600ish...it's an attractive bike, but it's a standard SLX De Rosa with a cool paint job and it doesn't have the iconic status of some of the other one off paint jobs they did around this time.

Whoa, I wasn't planning to flip it. I found this thread via a Google search. It wasn't until after posting that I realized this thread was not in the regular C&V forum. I'm just looking for insight on the frame, and for anyone else in the same boat, I did get a reply from Gita. They said the Replica 73s were done in '94, but only the Moltenis were brought Stateside.

As for what to do with it, BG's suggestion has a great deal of merit

That is a beautiful frameset, I would build it up with an alloy Campy group, either Chorus or Record, as I think the silver components would look great.

Where did you find it?

No worries...I wasn't judging or criticizing you, just trying to help you understand value.

I actually like it with the parts on it...they may not be perfect for the frame's time period, but so what? I really like Campy 9sp and have it on 2 bikes. IMO yours looks good as is. And congrats on getting a beauty!

This is a great example of the chaos that comes from waking a zombie thread!

@Bulldozer27 - why don't you put that 9-speed Chorus group on the KAS frame before you give it to your father?

Funny story. I won it on ebay last week after watching it from the start. The pics were so crappy (especially the closeup of the Replica 73 decal) that, based on the decals on the seat and head tubes, I thought it was an actual 70s De Rosa in Team KAS colors I was grinning the whole drive up to LA thinking I basically just stole it from the seller who didn't realize what he had. But given what I paid, I wasn't disappointed upon actually picking it up.

I actually have a '92 8 spd C Record group (1st yr Ergos, last year Deltas) that I'll put on until the next +1 comes along.

Yeah it is actually funny. Aron is replying to Jet's old post, Buldozer thinks they are talking about his frame crazy!

BTW, just in case you missed my sarcastic tone, I was joking about the fixie thing.
