Rebuilt 1976 Raleigh Nottingham Grand Prix pic heavy.
I just got done with a basic rebuild on this nice old Ralaleigh. I'm not sure what to do with it it's a little to small for me but works out OK I really like ride and look of the bike. I'm trying to figure out if I should sell it keep it as is or maybe even clean up restore the comsetics at some point in the future. I'm not real great at valueing my own work sometimes it is just really hard to be objective. I think the bike is worth about $250 maybe more if I wait till spring and sell in a hot market am I way of on this should it maybe higher or lower price value wise?
1976 Raleigh Nottingham Grand Prix workshop hand made frame with 20-30 high carbon tubing, 23 inch by seat post 56cm center to center. Equiped with orginal good working Raleigh branded Suntour VXG shift group and original Raliegh branded SR Apex crank set with original nice English made rat trap pedals. Orignial SR radrunner bars with replaced upgraded SR stem. Orginal wieman brake levers and replaced upgraded Diacompe center pulls. Nice upgraded vintage 700c wheels with cassette built for correct orginal 14-28 speed gearing, they look great and really match the bike. Good Vittorria tires and and Nice San marco leather seat. Fully rebuilt mechanically perfect but still has a great vintage look and a lot of old school charachter.

Just a little bump and follow up. I have been riding the bike around the past couple of days and with everyting nicely sorted out it rides so great I will probably keep it. I defeinetly won't sell this on the one cheap.

You did a good job on it but around here I don't see that bike pulling more than $150, even in the spring. Hi-ten tubing, claw RD, turkey levers, swaged crank..

Not a lot of vintage Raleighs here for some reason, but UO-8s sit on CL all winter at $200-250, down around $100-150 they move - don't show up on CL again. I'd peg your Raleigh a bit higher for the alloy crank and being so nice and clean and tuned etc, partly offset by the turkey levers. Come spring, those UO-8s are getting $150+. So say $150-200 for your bike at the right season. I know a freshly cleaned, tuned, overhauled bike should get a premium over one that is merely rideable, but I'm not sure how much they get. Maybe they just sell faster.

Well I on the tuning and rebuilding I wasn't expecting to get a good return. I just thought maybe this bike would merit a little more considering it rides and looks a lot nicer than other bikes I have sold in $200 price range. I know the turkey levers and crank may hurt the price a little but since I may keep the bike I really wanted to set it up to ride like a new bike but keep as much of the orginial parts and look of the bike as I could.

I would keep it and ride it. Looks like a nice ride.

I recently bought a 25" same vintage, color Grand Prix for $60 in NJ. It looked new. Cleaned, new rubber and cables, overhauled. Gave it to the neighbor's 6'3" son, but if I were to have sold it, at least $225 IMHO.

Well just a quick update I reluctantly sold the bike for $200 after some new baretape and white cables. I know the bike should be worth more but I just didn't feel like holding on to it for several months only to maybe get another $50-75 out of it. If the frame was just one size bigger I would have definetly kept it. Just din't make since to keep a bike that isn't a great fit when I have several other bikes and couple of potential project bikes.

Considering snow on theground, you did fine price wise. Also, there is always another deal around the corner.

I am shocked someone paid over $125 for this. I think you got absolute top dollar and I'm confused about why people think hi-ten should approach $200.

Well you are a chro-mo snob nicer High carbon frames are every bit as good if not better than basic chro-mo stuff from the same era.

You can call me a snob, but I didn't create the market. You can write that carbon steel is better than cro-mo, but not many feel that way, and they sold for a lot less new.
I am genuinely and sincerely interested in why you think this should be worth over $200. There may be something I don't know that makes this special and I would love to learn more. I usually see hi-ten Raleighs sell for around $100-$130.

Well the bike as sold had some real nice 700c alloy rims with cassette modified for 14-28 good tires seat and new bartape basically rebuilt and ready to ride $200 value in nearly any shop.

Say what you will about the bike I sold it for $200 and felt the price was almost cheap for the bike.

I think you did well. Very well. You are welcome to believe it's worth whatever you want...and you got your price, which is what matters. I am not sure I would have gotten that here.

I know it's already sold, but what is going on with the rear brake hanger/cable stop? Isn't that the cable stop built into the frame that you have the bare cable running through?

Still learning
With full overhauls running $125 and up in most markets, plus parts other than cables, IMHO, $200 is FMV for a Raleigh Grand Prix. Alloy rims are a plus, but most first time buyers don't pay real attention to this, but the paint is no better than average condition.
In NNJ and Ann Arbor, I have sold some not so special Fujis, Sagres and Team, and Peugeots in the $200-$225 range, and I'd rate them about the same, above base model level. I'm not even including Mixtes, for which you can add $50-$100 for.

Th original Raliegh cable stop was gone when I the frame. It just seemd to make the routing a little better to run it through the frame the cable didn't make much if any contact with the frame.
