Vitus 979 (I think). Appreciate any advice as to what it's value is.
Hi I believe I'm looking at a Vitus 979 that looks likes it is in pretty good shape--no dents, cracks, and shifts smooth. I am not 100% positvie if it's a 979 because I don't know what distinguishing marks the Vitus 979 has, but it sure looks like one. There is a 54 imprinted on the head tube though. What kind of money value would you place this bike at? I'm thinking about buying it. Thanks for your imput. If there is any other information that would help, I'll get it.

Here is my take on it. A 54cm 979 in nice cosmetic condition except for no decals, what seems to be mostly or all DuraAce. In my market, in summer it might fetch $300 on Craigslist. In winter, less. 979 frames come up often on eBay, the standard aluminum ones go for about $150-250, where in that range seems to depend on condition and the decals. You can get decals for $35-45.

Sounds like about what I've observed price-wise. I get the value/decals relationship, but I have to say the bikes look quite nice without decals imho.
oh, I'd also add that if you're interested in it to *ride* vs simply collect, I'd recommend giving it a good ride if you haven't ridden one already.

In Vancouver BC I would try to get at least $500 for it in the spring or the summer. Those DA 7400 grouppos go for pretty good $$$ on ebay. It has the DA seat post and a sweet looking rolls saddle. $400 minimum even in the winter.

Around here I think $400 would be very realistic in the spring. Right now you might sit on it but I could see more than $400 with some patience.
