89 Puegoet US Express

Okay I picked up a his and her set of Puegoet bikes recently for a starter touring bike prior to me purchasing either a Surly LHT or a Trek 520. I am 52 and just now getting back into cycling.
The 1st bike link is the his and the second, the hers. Both bikes were purchased in Nurenburg, Germany and I am the second owner. I have both original manuals and one of them still has the dealer stamp as the first owner never registered the girls bike.
I have two questions. The first is how much do these bikes usually go for in the open market and second, how difficult will it be to find parts should I need to perform maintenance while touring in the US? It is my understanding that it has been some time since Puegoet has had a dealer network in the US.
I have heard comments that the French used some non standard gear threads and could cause me some issues if I had to stop at a LBS for on the road repair.
I am open to the community for your comments. Thank you.

Ahhh, the tell tale late 80's early 90's Peugeot splash. I'm not familiar with those models but I've had a few Peugeot road bikes from the same era. I think the bottom brackets are normal english thread 68mm, I think. From what I remember by that point in time they were pretty normal all round.

Not much value, maybe $75-100. Frame is hi-ten. Here's more info, check the 89 brochure.

Good news for parts, there should be no problems. These were not made in France.

Those bikes are bomb proof. Parts are a dime a dozen. You should be good to go.

I agree these are great looking bikes and getting them serviced when needed should be an easy task. Do you plan on doing multi day rides one these or are you talking about driving to a destination and using these for sight seeing?

For now....two to four day trips along rail trails and Virginia roads. Good to hear about parts though.
The only thing that concerned me is that on the chainstay, there is a sticker that says, "Made in France" and since these were bought in Germany...it would not make sense to send an American made bike to Europe when they are made next door. I will say that the original owner did mention he purchased it at the BX as he was in the Army....so it is possible that the bike came from America on a distribution channel. The sticker is the only thing throwing me off here.
Thanks everyone.

OH No not american made but possible made in the Orient somewhere. Regardless of where they are made unless you have serious trouble with the bottom bracket (BB) or headset HS) while traveling you should still be able to get these easily serviced.
I don't know what you paid for this but if they are likely to see alot of use it is certainly worth the effort and expense to get these overhauled. Fresh grease and even new bearings in the BB, HS and hubs will go along way to ensure thousands of miles of trouble free riding.

That is where they are at now. Both of them are at my lbs getting the once over and tune up. Maybe. They will work out fine. According to the frame deminsions of the above link, they have a longer wheelbase Than a Surly LHT and adequate chainstay length to handle panniers. maybe I have a good starter touring bike.
