early 90's Torelli Steel Road Bike?
Ok, my LBS has this bike for sale on consignment. I'm trying to ID the model, year, type of tube set used for construction, and get a fair value for the bike so I can make the seller an offer because I'm pretty sure his price is quite high. That said, I know next to nothing about classic or vintage bikes. Warning, there are a ton of iPhone pics to follow. Thanks for looking!

DISCLAIMER: completely useless post that offers no meaningful information you were seeking, but I just wanted to vent. Definitely looks like she was rode hard and put up wet (how can someone who's trying to sell a bike, not even invest $10 and re-tape the bars for crying out loud). On top of that, and Francophiles will hate me for saying so, but the New Success (c. 94-99?) was a knock-off of late 80's Shimano DA and while it worked OK, it was still about a decade behind the times. It looks like someone's well-used and well-crashed crit bike and I wouldn't be interested at any price.

Interesting to know that the new success stuff is a DA rip off, yet the levers are, from everything I can tell rebadged 8 speed Campy ergopower levers. Mostly, I'm interested in the frame as it seems to be structurally in good shape, even if the paint is pretty bad on it. The wheels and group are coming off it for sure if I buy it.

I believe Sachs and CampI had an agreement of sorts around this time but they Sachs RDs did play well with Shimano controls. I am actually running a set of Sachs Rival shifters with Sante RD and HG 7spd cassette. Also by this time even CampI was copying shimano's dimensions for RDs to ensure smooth shifting.
OK back to the Torelli, I want to say it is suprising that no one knows what year it is but judging from the guys at my LBSs it is actually sad that they have no interest in anything other than what they can sell.
OK Torelli as you may or not know was in importer and I think they are still in business. The imported Mondonico frame and had their own branded frames imported as well. in '90 you could buy a Torelli SL frame for roughly $150 or more less than a 'name brand' frame and they were good stuff. They were also not afraid to think outside the tube and use Oria and other brand tubes.
Take some better pics look for a serial number and ask Torelli if any knows about it. https://www.torelli.com/
Personally as that sits I would not give more than $150 for it depening on how it shifted on a test ride. It needs a complete overhaul and very likely a new BB and cables. Also I would be leery of that front wheel and may want a discount for it too.

+1 Rode hard, hung up wet.
+1 Lazy seller (my favorite). I bought a similar bike from an LBS a couple of weeks ago. Price was right, bike was a mess, but the frame was nice. Made an offer, and they took it.
LBS is going to have that bike for a long time, unless the price is attractive, or the buyer is foolish.
But a nice frame. So if you have the time/tools/aptitude/pile of parts, I would be interested at the "right" price.
Wow, that seat post is sky high.

Lots of "jeeze I wonder how that happened" damage.
The frame is the only thing worthwhile here. I would only be interested if it were SLX or better (and go over it with a fine-tooth comb).
Agree with $150-$200 if frame is staight, but wouldn't waste time on it myself. I'm sure LBS has it priced around $500.

You're bang on at the $500 asking price. I'm not paying that...
I want this pretty much for the frame only, I'm going to replace pretty much everything else, if I can get it for a reasonable price. I have an email out to Torelli to see if they can give me a model and year. hopefully they get back to me soon.

I wouldn't bother with more research, unless the shop is open to a lot lower price. Sometimes sellers want too much.

The frame and fork may be in decent shape, so let's say $200 worth. The shifters if they are fully functional, cranks and brakes appear serviceable, probably new brake pads are in order. If you happen to like those pedals, good, otherwise not a lot of value. The Bottom bracket is a cartridge type, so it is either good or toast. The wheels are only probably useful for the hubs. The front rim is NOT the place to keep using with a dent like that, braking is too unpredictable.
The stem may or may not be of a decent length for you, aesthetically it needs help, with the decorative cap missing it is just so visible and ugly. Locating a cap will be divine intervention at a decent price. Ignoring the seat post which also detracts from the style of the bike, at least it is functional and as most probably a 27.2 will have some value to someone else. It will need tires. The headset if smooth could be kept. The tires do not help at all in the presentation.
I think the "value" of the bike is $325 maximum at this stage. This would be if it fit and I just fell in love with how it rode.
