Trek 520
Looking for a bike for a friend. This guy looks like it needs a bit of work. Also appears to have a slight hodgepodge of parts. Any work the bike needs, I should be able to do for him to get the bike back up to speed. What would be a fair price to offer this seller?

I have two 520's an 84 and an 86 Cirrus, both Reynolds 531 frames, both of which I wouldn't sell for less than $300. Can you get the serial # from the seller to ascertain date? Any idea on frame tubing too? Unicrown fork and no Reynolds stickers I'd estimate mid 1990's?
To me the biggest negative is that the wheels don't match. I think you should try for $150-$175. But everybody likes vintage Treks, so you may have to go higher.

I sold my '92 520 last year for $450, and it sold very quickly. I don't know what work you think it needs, but $300 would be a steal. The frame is what you're paying for on this blike.

$200. Doesn't look all that hodgy nor podgy to me- just like its from around 1991. Obviously the front wheel isn't the original one, but the rest looks at least period correct.
Yup, 1991, and almost entirely complete. IME if the stock saddle is still there, it's barely been ridden, $200 might prove to be a bit of a lowball- https://www.vintage-trek.com/images/t...rekCatalog.pdf

Constant tinkerer
520s command a premium, even among touring bikes. This one needs work which will lower the value a bit, but as noted the value is in the frame.
I think if you can get it for $300 you're doing pretty well.
