Looks like a nice one fer sure ! you can get a lot of bike for 450 bucks ....but where ar e you going to find that one in that condition for that kind of money ? those are great riding bikes ....does he have the key for the locking fork ?

It certainly looks nice but I am not sure it is worth $450. It kind of looks like it needs tires.

Based on miamijim's read of the market, vintage is weak in the Tampa Bay area, so I think the seller is perhaps 33% optimistic. Nevertheless:

I could be wrong... but all of that paperwork appears quite a bit newer than 1961. Is it all generic to Raleigh or does any of it reference that particular Raleigh model?

Your typical CL buyer doesn't want this kind of bike anyway. They want the junk Walmart crap hoping they can save 20 bucks over new. Ebay is where the true market is for these.

If you really want it... get 15 brand new $20 bills and flash them in the seller's face. Cash held a few feet from a seller's face makes up for any amount "deficiencies". If the seller wants to do a CL only sale... then they better take it since that's about all they're going to get via CL. At $300 you'll at least break even on Ebay if you ever want to sell.

Overpriced, but an outstanding example. It will be difficult to find one in nicer condition. Depends how bad you want a vintage 3 speed. Is he going to get $450? Doubtful. But still, this is an incredible example, so if it is your dream bike, I say go for it. Larger frames like this one are harder to find in 3 speeds. So if you need that size, I would be considering it for sure.

Now if you are just looking for a good bike to ride around town, keep shopping. $450 will buy a lot of bike.

Every town has a price level where Craigs List just goes dead (no buyers), particularly on vintage stuff. Around here, that price is about $300. So above that mark, there can be incredible deals. Meanwhile, at the $50 to $100 price level, any rusty POS will sell. People would rather buy crap in bad condition for a low price, than something outstanding for a higher price. Newer stuff tends to break that price limit, as you get buyers that just looked at a $1000 bike at a local shop, and when they see a 3 or 4 year version of the same bike for $500, they will buy.

Nice bike in great shape. At that price, though, you could pick up a modern internally geared roadster (but it wouldn't have the cool red monogrammed bolts).
