Peugeot PX10 mint condition value
Hi,
I want to get myself a nice Peugeot PX10 1960-1970 era but I'm wondering how much I should pay for it. I'd like to find something in mint condition.
The ones that are on ebay at the moment are way overpriced (1700.00 and 2500.00) and not that much in good or mint condition. At the same time I can see some ended auctions around 400.00, so it's hard to define myself a budget for it. Any help from someone who particulary know the PX10s market would be appreciated!
Thanks.

You'll not find one in mint... perhaps in excellent condition.
Pre-1970 PXs can, in very nice condition, run into low four figures at auction. Post 1970 models tend to run less. Ebay can be the land of hopeful pricing. I just looked, and several of the seventies bikes are seriously overpriced. One of the advertised PXs is not a PX at all, so learn to identify one.
A 1970s one in decent condition should run 4/600 tops; you can find them cheaper at local sale.

I would also so you should be able to pic one up for 4/600 in good condition. I wouldn't go over 700 if your going to spend more than that there a nicer vintage bikes than the rather common PX10.

I just sold a 72 PX10 in very good restored condition on Ebay for $600 plus shipping. One data point at least.

+1 You will not find mint condition at any price, I almost guarantee it. Excellent condition maybe.
As the condition nears mint the price goes up dramatically. Keep that in mind and figure out how much you're willing to spend.

Thanks guys, that really helps me out! I just found one that seems to be in excellent condition and all original, I'll post detailed pics when I have some from the seller.

Isn't this one in near mint condition?

It's just not my size, but to better understand what this community considers mint condition...

Even the best condition bike has been knocked around some and has some wear, and give one of us about thirty seconds and we can find it. Here's my PX, for instance:
It is a very nice survivor bike. It has the following flaws: small decal loss on downtube decal, several small touch-ups in the white paint, serial number engraved on bottom side of downtube, etc. Doesn't sound like much, but it's there.
In vintage bicycle grading, there is no approved scale, but "mint" is an annoyingly overused term. I worked part-time for awhile for one of the biggest comic book dealers in the world grading comic books; in comic books there is an accepted and very specific grading scale (more than one inch spine tear? Can't be graded higher than good/verygood, etc.) In my time there I graded literally thousands of books from the 1930s on up, and never once graded a book as "mint".
In addition, we inherently distrust the word "mint" here, since we regularly see bikes described as mint with major flaws-- rust, bent forks, inoperable or missing parts, dents, etc.

Seller says "excellent condition" if my French is not too rusty. That seems fair.

Toe straps are set up wrong, rear brake cable too long in the front- too short in the back, rear tire seems to be on backwards, brake levers positioned too high, FD too high, is that fork.... maybe just the pic...

I found out a 1972 PX10E that is in very good shape, what I'd call Excellent condition, besides the tires that have to be changed of course, and a general overhaul/lubrication. Detailed pictures attached.
How much should be paid according to you guys?
Thanks!

Where is that one located?
I would want to pay $500 tops and I like PX-10s quite a bit (I'm also cheap...) However, I don't think $600-700 would be out of line as an asking price. The condition does look very nice. Unfortunately it has the more boring lugs.

This a very nice example appears to be in very clean original condition needing some work I would go around $500 but as said it could easily sell higher. I do agree the less interesting plain lug work does hold the price down a bit say $50-100.
