Early 80's Campagnolo Record Tool Set
I have this tool set, bought 1982 or 83. Only used a few times then stored away, so it is almost like new. The tools are all there and like new, even the cutting edges are sharp like new. The wood case is in great shape too. Anybody know what this might be worth, and the best way to sell it?

ebay, check completed auctions. probably 3k plus or minus 500 yours is in real nice shape, I would never sell mine.

The Pope's toolkit probably got as much use as the OPs. Wish I had the money lying around for this tool kit!

The kit didn't get much use, but the bikes sure did. Probably rode 100k miles back then. Before this kit each year the bottom bracket would feel rough and would be replaced due to wear. This kit has a tool that cleans up the bb threads and machines the bearing mating surfaces true and flat. After that the bb runs smooth all year (10-12k miles) and tear down shows only very slight, extremely even wear on the races. Repack and re-use. Same deal for the headset. Ditto derailleur hanger, which one tool allows you to tweak to true alignment, making for unbelievably smooth shifting. Even the dropouts can be tweaked absolutely parallel, so wheels mount easier and the bike runs true down the road. It goes on and on. When paying big bucks for custom bikes, or paying reputable shops, that these things would be done automatically, one would think such things would go without saying. One would be wrong! Campy builds these tools to last for years even with daily professional use, but the fact is they can transform a bike to such an extent its worth it even used just a few times like mine were. A rider who values really good bike feel and handling will truly appreciate the difference. $3500 sounds about right I guess. Thanks for the info!

Its been so long I can hardly remember, but it seems like about $1500 new, which back in 1982 was a ton of money! At $3k today that might barely be keeping up with inflation. Maybe. All I know is getting it out for photo's, just looking at it, what a fine set of tools! Deserves to be with someone still riding who will be using it and appreciating it even more.
