Pinarello Veneto

Just picked up a Pinarello Veneto road bike today and wondered what I should ask for it. Condition is very good with only a few nicks in the paint. Full Campy but incorrect fork and front rim.

If I were you I would part it out. It doesn't have that nice chrome fork like it should, and the uni-crown looks awful. The frame without the fork might just fetch as much as $400, to the right buyer, assuming it's in cherry condition. That fork should fetch about $50, really not very valuable and would just drag the value of the frame down considerably if "married" to the frame. The parts look pretty good, they'll do well on EBAy...just my $.02

Thanks, my other thought is to try to find a Campy fork for it in the correct size. Anyone here have a fork that would work in this bike ?

Also a question; is the Campy record stem and brakes and such clear coated or can they be polished ?

A Campy fork? I don't think Campagnolo made forks

That isn't a Campagnolo stem. The components on that bike appear to be '88-91 Campagnolo Chorus. Most all Campagnolo parts are clear anodized. A good cleaning with soap and water and then some light wax should bring a luster back to them.

Personally I think if you don't know anything about the bike, or bikes in general, and your just looking to make a quick buck you should have left it for someone who wanted it.

Your right, I know very little about lightweight bikes but I found this one and liked it. My intention, when buying was not to flip it but after finding it had the wrong fork I thought maybe I should.

I am retired and like working on bikes and did not buy this bike to "make a quick buck", in fact if I do sell it I most likely will barely break even.

I hope you don't come down this hard on all the new guys trying to get into this hobby that come to this forum. Just because I was not sure of the manufacturer of that fork is no reason to say those things.

Looks like a 3T stem to me. Why argue with the experts?

Anyway, bike as is has little collector value due to the fork front wheel issue, I would worry about if the bike was crashed, is the frame buckled? To get the most out of it, part it out to ebay. As is I think you'd have trouble getting more than 500 for it.

I would rather keep it and wait for the correct fork than part it out. Bike is straight with no cracks, bends or tweaks.

Yeah, that's probably the wisest thing to do. If you take your time (sounds like you have some!) and research the fork, you might just get lucky and spy one this Winter. Make sure you measure the existing fork, you'll want a replacement to be at least that long or better.

I think there's diminishing returns in replacing the fork, a Pinarello fork may set you back $200+....... if you ever find one. At the very least I'd get the current fork cut to the proper length and threaded.

That stem is made by '3T' (three T) or TTT (triple T) and is provbably the 'Record' model so tha would make it a 3T Record stem. Nothing to do with campy.

Maybe $650 to the right buyer in its current state.

Thanks, the current fork is on the bike and working correctly. The stem is confusing and it seems the ad I found showing the same stem wrongly stated Campy record. I am learning, slowly.

I think that 3T sold a stem that was called the "Record" model so there may have been some confusion there, perhaps even a mis-translation from wherever you found that image.

Since you were able to track down a very nice Pinarello, I think that you could find another, cheaper bike with a chrome fork and swap the forks out and sell the bike complete.

Value will depend on your area and the time of year that you decide to sell it but I would say that, with a nicer fork and some new white bar tape, you'd get an easy $500 since it is a well regarded brand with a Chorus group. Oh yeah, and lose those aero bars too

This is a little weird. This just popped up on the local craigslist:

[h=2]Pinarello fork set NEW - $125 (Spokane)[/h]

I hung on to these for a backup on a past build. New & never used, in a brilliant acid yellow, progressive rake.

I believe it's cost prohibitive to blast a steel fork and then chrome plate it.

Oria ML25 tubing, according to a 2010 BF thread, is straight gauge with a tubeset weight of 2078g. Oria GM0.0 was their lighter tubing. So heavier than Columbus SL, but lighter than Cromor.
