Nishiki, help ID
Looks in very rough shape, only have one picture - can anyone pinpoint model and year (extras like tubing, possible group would be nice)

Late '70 early '80s, Over the BB cables nutted brakes...... looks like steel wheels maybe a bolt on rear?

My friend wants to buy it, at $49 I'd take it regardless. He has a wheelset he wants to use. Just curious what could be the model. Also intrigued by tubing sticker (can't make out what is it) and relatively good Vette saddle

It's about 50km drive for him (and 300km for me :-)) and he is no bike nut by any means. I'll be working on it if he gets it but wanted some re-assurance on frame (does not look entirely entry level to me)

It has bottle bosses, a RD hanger and shifter bosses, and no turkey wings, it might be stamped dropouts and Tri Tubi ChroMO but for 50 bucks it might not be a bad rider. The two hour drive sounds a bit ,much but I have done worse.

I've done much worse too! I think it is Nishiki Landau and I may drive out there myself if my friend does not want it. From what I read after quick search Landau was up there and quite a decent frame. Looks my size to boot - 54ish top tube

Rehab is no problem. Looking at couple of other Nishiki as well for myself - the nicest one is much closer, ~200km from me, waiting to see if my offer is accepted

Looks to be a early 80's Custome Sport these where one of Nishiki's best selling models high-ten tange frame and pretty basic Japanes components with steel wheels. With only a slightly better wheelset these actually make some of the nicest bargain priced riders.

I know this is late, but for what it is worth . . .
1985 Olympic for the Canadian Market. Serial number probably starts with "CD ", maybe "CE ".
In the Canadian market, a different coloured headtube is a sign of a 1985 model year for several models.
This was one of the Olympic colour schemes. It was also a colour scheme for the Landau model.
The Landau had a crankset with drilled chainrings. This photo doesn't show that.
The Olympic has a tubing decal: black outline, light green background, Tange 5 PG. This bike appears to have that decal.
The Landau was Tange 900 DB.
