Shimano Crane RD

curious what you guys think this is worth. I think it's right in there with a sun Tour Cyclone.

Note; that is NOT rust in the bolt holes, I'm getting weird reflections with the flash. (sigh)

Suntour is better shifting but if you have a full Shimano bike then it would be useful. I think unless you have two bidders who placed snipe bids on the same auction you will be under $35. I bought only one a few years ago for $20 landed.

one weak point on these is the lower outer rivet of the parallelogram. it also serves as part of the cable anchor. the load from the cable always causes it to bend.

Interesting observation . Causes what to bend? The cage?

not the cage, the rivet. it is too thin to keep from getting bent by the load from the cable.

$20.00 - $25.00 sounds about right... the short cage version would fetch more.

They are not nearly as nice as a Cyclone in the shifting department, Suntour still held the patents on the slant parallelogram when the Crane was in production and Shimano never found a way to equal that until they could adopt that technology in the mid eighties.

Checking on eBay the Crane GS has recently been selling at prices from between $22 to $100. Of course they would go for less at swap-meets or on Craigslist.
