i was lucky enough to be the first responder to an add on CL with no pictures, only the title "1989 PANASONIC AL 9000". The body of the listing only said excellent condition, ready to ride. It had a very low price. When the seller called me and told me the bike had full 105 group i told him I would buy it. He lives in a very wealthy suburb north of Chicago. It was his wife`s bike that she never rides. Well when I got there and saw this bike I did not even try to talk him down. I could sell the wheel set for what I paid. Also included was the original saddle and stem. I know about what it`s worth parted out. What`s it worth as a bike?

No replies? Well the bike is beautiful and rides real nice. It is just a tiny bit to small for me. I have a friend looking for a road bike that may buy it. It is his perfect size. I will give him a very good price. If he does not want it I will list in on CL for $400. If no one buys it I keep it. I am a sucker for a pretty red bike. Besides the group is mint. The wheels are perfect. Other than a few tiny scratches the bike is like new.

I like yer bike. I'm pretty sure my wife's 1983 Raleigh was built by Panasonic. Much better w/ the white accents.

It's pretty but I'd say 400 is pretty optimistic. The bonded aluminum frames typically aren't worth nearly as much as a high quality vintage steel frame. I sold a very similar bike in very similar condition (it was a Mongoose-built bonded aluminum frame with full 105 group) for $260 and it sat for a week before selling. Yours is a little prettier and from a better regarded brand, and you're in a bit bigger city than I am, but I wouldn't expect anything over $300. I could be wrong, but those are just my thoughts.

i agree. $250 sounds about right to me.

$400 and up bikes go slow on craigslist, and when they sell theyre usually well regarded models. bonded aluminum just wont bring that interest at that price point.

On the bright side, that is a very nice 105 groupset you have. I know if you put those up as a group auction on ebay it would sell easily.

Thanks. On CL I would not let it go for under $350. The parts on the bike are worth that much if not more. If it does not sell that`s ok. I have everything thing I need for +1.

Good luck Steve. I just picked this 1989 105 equipped Schwinn Tempo up. I have a matching rim for the front. Overhauled, i would expect about $300.

That`s a sweet Tempo. I`m sure it will sell. I`m hoping my friend takes mine. It`s not so much about the money. I may come across a real nice bike I want to keep some day that has worn out parts. I will have a very good groupo and a perfect set of wheels for it. For what I paid for the bike, I could probably only buy the wheels on ebay. I really don`t want to let the parts go. Not cheap anyway.

Im thinking 275 or 300ish at most. 105 with Bio pace is not in demand and someone would probably have to swap out the rings. Looks nice though

I have been there just give it up for a lower price or keep it. Pretty simple the best you will likely get is $200 legit cash if lucky.

Its Red. Its mint. It`s Chicago. I got $200 for a 1975 Grand Prix with cotter cranks and steel wheels. Like I said, if my friend takes it I will be happy. If not, I am not giving it away. So a C&V collector may not want it. Everyone in the world is not a C&V collector. If I don`t get $350 no big deal. I like looking at it. It rides very well. I can put the wheels on my Trek and get rid of the goofy hell-o-matic wheels that came with it. I blew a few shifts uphill because of the freewheel this weekend. I like my options. No big deal.

I never thought 105 was beautiful until I saw the pictures in the OP.

I agree, $300 would be about the top of the market value here despite the amazing condition. It's a cool bike though so if you like it, keep it. Those are also some of the lightest clincher rims ever made. Great score.

Biopace does have its own following that are usually watching out for spare/replacement rings....You will make more money parting the bike out, but that will be a shame as it looks like it's in very good condition as a whole. Unfortunately, aluminum bikes in general, just never held their values well, because of many continuing opinions of them either being too flexible, too stiff and harsh riding (frankly, I wish people would make up their minds!) or the whole stress cycle cracking thing which IMO, is greatly over exaggerated.....That being all said, I agree with most that the bike might be worth about $300 max in most markets, less in the more quiet corners of the country......
I suggest you might consider replacing the unusual looking stem with a more conventional, period correct one though, and you might make a little bit more on it....

Thanks!! I had no idea the rims where that good. They look fantastic. I did look up the parts and yes I can get a lot of money that way. I would keep the wheels though. I left the Zoom micro adjusting stem on the bike because that is the stem my friend wants on it. I gave him the choice. His cousin is very big into cycling and owns professional sizing equipment so if he likes the bike he is going to have the bike professionally fit to him. I do have the original stem that I will be giving him with the bike.
