Meteor Bicycle ???
Hello, I hope this doesn't upset anyone. I am looking to find out if anyone has any idea on a price I should sell my bike. It was recently saved from a pile of junk in a barn in East bay California. It has a badge in the front that says "Meteor Made in England". The downshift levers say "Campagnolo Vicenza Italy". The cranks say "E.B.W" maybe by Williams, and have a picture of sword. The handle bars are Gerry Burgess & have "GB" engraved as well as and engraving of the British Isles. The Gearbox says "Campagnolo Nuovo Record". The Toe clips say "Brevete AFA Made in France". The I did some research and I can find most of the parts except the Meteor bike frame itself. I posted the bike on Craigslist for $40 and I got an overwhelming response. Any info on the Meteor would be great. Thank you

Thanks. Have you ever seen one of this. I've search high and low. I even started calling bike shops but no one has ever heard of a Meteor brand.

I have seen some old ads for Meteor on the web, but I don't know anything about them except that they were English. I can tell you that the bike has some nice parts on it--I mean, if you paid $40 for it, the bars alone are worth that much. If it was mine I would absolutely restore it. If I didn't have the time or skill to do so, I would sell it to someone who did. Based on what I can see in the photos, it looks to me like a midrange bike from the 60's.

I found it in a barn. I didn't pay anything for it. I had a restorer call and offer $100. I think I might take it. I would have to buy tires, a seat ,and tune up the brakes and gears. Probably have to change the chain too.

The bike does need a full rebuild obviously, but nearly everything that needs replaced on it is stuff that any good bike mechanic would be replacing/servicing anyway. I can tell you that I see a whole lot more value than $100 there even as-is.

It's hard to tell for sure from the photos, but it appears to be chrome plated. Is it?

I think its freakin awesome. $200 would be a great deal to someone. I would certainly pay that for it. The handlebars and stem, Williams crank, old style Weinmann brakes, Campy pedals?, and its Chrome. $400 bike by my estimation. Heck, the parts alone are worth that.
Just saw the Campy headset, so I would imagine Campy hubs too. This was one special bike I would imagine.

Interesting that it has braze-on shift levers. And the brakes are Universal not Weinmanns like I thought.

I would say the bike is worth $250 in a better CA market even in this rough of shape. Nicely cleaned up and parted onje could get that much or more for the parts on Ebay. Most of the value on the bike is in the stem crankset pedals and hubs.

No one has mentioned the frame. Nervex lugs, full chrome, the frame alone would bring at least $200. And i think its worth much more than that.

I couldn't bare letting it go to the elements for who knows how long it would have been there. The barn was not sealed so it was like if it was outside. I have a restorer coming by and wants to buy it. Or charge me to restore it if I want to keep it. She said it could go up to $1000 if restored. Is she blowing smoke up my a**?

Fully chromed sixties and early seventies Paramounts regularly go for $1500 or more.

Personally - I'd take that $100 before he/she changes her mind. I'll bet the BB is toast, and I'd be real concerned about how much water has been sitting inside that seat tube. Chain, freewheel, derailleurs, brakes, hubs - all roached.

It doesn't look that bad to me. Different perspectives. It would be very rewarding bringing that bike back. The chrome on the frame looks amazing. Internally, hard to tell. I would risk $400 on it. Can't even get a seat for a Bulls playoff game for that.
