Eddie Merckx road bike. Year and Value?

This is a nice complete Eddie Merckx road bike with original paint. Any idea what it's worth?

Frame is likely an early Corsa Extra (note SLX tag on seat tube) or Professional. Maybe mid 80's based on top tube cable guides. No idea about the value of e Campy stuff, others can chime in here about that.

Has some weird parts - the Mavic bits with c-record don't help value. The deltas sell for around 200 on their own. This might be a case for part out.

As as it sits - guessing around 1000-1100 on eBay complete, less fees.

I saw saw the slx as well and have no idea of the value of mavic group. It looks like mid eighties to me. Given that it is a very nice frame and in original condition crap it even has the water bottle. There are so many guys that on one look will know the year. Value is in the eye of the buyer my market gets more than others.

With the more modern brake bridge, under bottom bracket cable routing, top tube cable guides I'd say mid-80s to 89. Looks to be in not great shape so I'd agree with Aaron at about a grand once cleaned up. If it were my size I'd pay about $800.

What are Deltas? Is eBay the best place to sell? Do others agree about parting this out?

What makes you say it looks to be in "not great shape"? I thought it looked pretty nice...dusty, but in decent shape. I'm not being defensive...just want to know what buyers are looking for.

Campagnolo deltas - the brakes. I think my initial estimate was probably slightly high - you'd get maybe 200-300 more parted out. I can't tell you if that's worth it to you.

It is in decent shape, but its dirty, tires flat, headset is either rusty or filthy bar tape looks like crap, and the pictures are unattractive. To maximize value its gotta shine and look like it is show room ready, not a trade-in waiting for a detail job.

Shape looks good but not great (great would be new-old-stock). Looks like some paint chips all around and scratches and it's hard to tell but the chrome on the chain stays looks dull and may be pitted. If I bought it I would obviously detail it, get rid of the odd bits and STI it.

Time to pull this bike out of the garage again and see if I can get any info on it. I'd like to know what model and year it is, what it's value is and how to go about selling it. I took some better photos today.https://photos.app.goo.gl/IxiS3yKi6fU1cyDf2

Didn't we answer this? It's probably a Corsa extra, mid-late 80s.

Value complete will range from 800-1200 based on you cleaning it, the ad and luck. Best place is likely eBay for Max value, but you'll probably have to pay a place tpo ship. On CL, it can vary. If you're in a good CL market, you could probably find a buyer at 700-800 and avoid the fees and pain in the ass. Some of the parts have considerable value and it might sell for more parted out, but it will also be more work.

I'd love that water bottle - have one, missing the pair.

I thought with the new picture of the code on the bottom bracket someone could tell me specifically model and year. The code reads:

CX Z
5 7906

also thought opinions varied on the value of the bike.

I'm in the Philadelphia area. What would you pay for the water bottle?

The mavic parts are nice too. I'd be tempted by that RD but someone will likely be very interested in the entire derailleur group. I think this is likely worth more as a part out.

Pic assist:

Nice job cleaning it, and vastly better photos. It's clearly in much better shape, and you've confirmed it was grime and dirt more than pitting and rust. If you still have the old tires, and they hold air, I'd probably would have gone to the trouble of wiping them down and putting them back on, along with a chain, just for the photos. Or, for maximal $, leave those off and as was suggested, part it out. The blend of parts doesn't really help value. I'd just be guessing at value, but this is an SLX Merckx frame in a good size (looks about 55-56cm) and in good shape. In the new photos it looks more red than fuschia. I'd search eBay sold listings on Merckx and on the individual components.

Per this site it looks like a Corsa Extra, 1985 (Z), and indeed a 55cm frame.

Just wiped it down with a soft cloth. It's a pretty bike. It's been I'm my dad's workshop for a long time (he's 83).

it sounds like most people agree that it makes more sense to part out the bike. What would the frame alone go for?

I was a little confused by that site because my model has "CX" rather than "C" or "X". Thanks for confirming

I don't need it that badly.

I think, with those photos, you can get 1100ish in the bay as it sits, but you'll lose a few bucks on fees. Local sale...800.

This says it's a corsa extra, 85'...

As suggested above, I'd search completed ebay sales to get an idea of price but those are at best an approximation. You may sit a long time on some of the parts depending on how you price them.

I'd give the Philadelphia craigslist a shot with the complete bike to see if you can get the price you want. That is a big city and someone may be willing to give you a very good price that way. It will save you a lot of hassle if that works out.

Didn't mean to offend you asking the water bottle's value. I'm new to this...just trying to figure things out.

Thanks for the confirmation on it being a Corsa Extra. I was confused by the "CX" designation on my bike when the key lists Corsa Extra as "X".
