A lower range Gios Torino
I made a rather high bid on a Gios Torino, not knowing enough about the brand history I thought they were all high quality bikes...according to the seller this is not a fake, but a lower end 70's Gios. Any thoughts on the quality and real value?

I am curious as to what the frame is. ChroMo, Hiten, mangalloy or a mix. I doubt it is junk, the components are the sort you might see on an older Bianchi Alloro. I don't think I would have bid that high just based on the components.

I would not pay more, but the bike is interesting. I have seen cheaper bikes labeled Gios from the late 60's to early 70's. The specification on the bike is quite thoughtful, forged ends, decent crank and derailleurs, Martano rims. Geometry looks like it is reasonable too.

You are aware those are sew up tires, right? Many riders will not deal with the more frequent flats and difficult repairs, even for the better ride.

Frequent flats? Over the last thirty years, I have had maybe a dozen flats on clinchers. I have had one with a tubular. And I did ride them about equally. Tubulars more so lately.

I actually get fewer flats on tubs.
Changing a flat is no biggie if you have a prestretched/glued spare under the saddle.
Let's be honest about the ride as well. There isn't a clincher made today that compares to a mid/high end tub.
It simply isn't that big of a deal.

Let's not overstate the flat resistance of sew-ups, either. I rode many miles on them, from the mid-'60s to the early '90s, and I remember accumulating a pile of punctured sew-ups throughout each season with the intention of sitting down and fixing them during the winter. (Confession: I usually fixed one or two and then threw the rest away.)
