Unfortunately, there's still nothing in the description that would say that the bike was ridden in the TDF. Some things that would hint at an actual pro team bike would be little custom touches like the riders name hand painted somewhere on the frame or top line rare and/or customized components that set them of from what was available from the public. Evidence of sponsorship from all sorts of companies in the form of decals or special paint job, including non-bike or component makers. Now all that stuff I mentioned can be faked or imitated, but there does not seem to even be any of sorts on your bike so it will be a challenge to verify that it was a TDF bike.....but heck who knows if it was a spare bike that did participate in the TDF, but maybe mostly in a support van or on top of a car bike rack....but if you can find proof that it even did that or was acquired by the team for/during the TDF, then it might have more value than a "regular" Pinarello front that time.
If you paid 300/400 bucks for an 80's Pinarello, your size, in VGC, with at least Columbus SL tubing and decent components on it, you did pretty good IMO....

well thanks everyone for the help, let me explain my post a little, the bike in question was at a garage sale in a suburb of Detroit , owner had passed away, kids just getting rid of stuff, i basically had no interest in the bike, kind of gave it the once over, then the guy starts telling me it was in the tour de france and how the owner just kept it in the house hanging on the wall, seemed odd to me but you never know, anyway a few more details . faded pinarello lettering , underneath (trademark) area it says PINARELLO TREVISO-ITALY ip115 though i cannot tell what is before the P either an L or i even could be a 1 , FRONT WHEEL IS A OMEGA STRADA-HARDOX ,MADE IN ITALY, REAR WHEEL SAYS MAVIC MA40 ,EMR7 STAINLESS STEEL EYELET , HARD ANODIZED 650W, TIRES ARE FORTEZA TRI-COMP 23/622 , COLUMBUS DECALS ON THE BIKE ,LOTS OF (P)S ETCHED IN FRAME, AND CAMPAGNALO ON SOME AREAS , OVERALL CONDITION MAYBE HIGH 6 TO 7 OUT OF 10, FADED LETTERING A PROBLEM, BIKE IS SUPER LIGHT IN MY OPINION , WHEN YOU HOLD IT UP AND PEDAL IT USING YOUR HAND IT IS SOOOO SMOOTH AND IT IS LIKE THE WHEEL WILL NEVER STOP TURNING, AMAZING , RED SOME SILVER COMPONENTS, BLACK SEAT WITH A COVER ON IT AND TIRES ARE RED, I THINK THATS THE REASON I EVEN GLANCED AT IT, THERE ASKING BETWEEN 3 AND 4 HUNDRED , THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE

For $300, it appears a terrific purchase. It is pretty big though, hope you are tall. Assuming the bike has not been adjusted for you, the bars are typically rotated so the return is horizontal or up to 10° the other way.
The saddle is nose down, and usually is much better when level as you won't be sliding forward.
The build spec of the bike is not typical pro race bike, I would toss the notion of a TdF use aside, but that did not enter in to your purchase price which is a good thing.

OK I think we can pretty conclusively say it was NOT a Tour de France Bike.
1) It is made from Cromor tubing, if the decal is correct. Not bad tubing, but a few grades below the lightest that Columbus made, and a team bike would be made of the lightest and best.
2) I don't think its the top Campanolo racing components either though I'm not an expert.
3) No team decals. Team bikes would be covered in decals from sponsors.
But for $300, its a good deal, if you change your mind, I will give you $350 and shipping Its a nice bike with good components and pretty fair paint for its age.

Columbus catalogs list the weight of an uncut Cromor tubeset (25CrMo4) as 2,190g, an uncut SL tubeset (Cyclex) as 1,925g, and an uncut EL tubeset (Nivacrom) as 1,670g.
Cromor is decent tubing, though, so that Pinarello with its Campy group is a good buy at $300. That's a pretty big frame.

You know, people who die don't get their names buried... Why don't you ask the owners name and look it up?

Beautiful bike. Even though it's not of the vaunted Columbus SL it's still gonna ride like a dream.
It's later than an 87 cuz 87 still had rear brake cable on top of top tube. I don't think any 89s with Cromor came in solid red. Could be an 88 or a 90. Could try to run some component date codes.

im a schwinn deluxe cruiser guy (100th anniverary ed.) anyway i go to garage sales on weekends, and lots of garage sales have bikes usually i pay no attention to them, my 1st thought was where is the kickstand, so the younger guy starts telling me how this bike was actually in the tour de france and the owner had received it from someone and kept it in the house, never rode it, so i went home and started looking up the name, pinarello, tour de france, then decided to join (bike forums) glad i did, very nice, cool people on here, so the next morning i went back asked if they still had the bike and bought it for $300, in a way i am on here trying to get affirmation that i did not blow 300 bucks ,

you did good - if you are tall (6'4"+) you will love how the bike rides.

So why did you introduce it as a Tour de France bike, honest seller, etc.?

hi everyone out there, does anyone have any idea what the value would be of an actual tour de france bike from the 1988 tour de france, it is a red colored parinelli ,the guy says was in the race , not perfect but very good condition, also no paperwork but i think he is honest,"

naive buyer for sure i know nothing about road bikes , but this garage sale would be the last place you would think to find this bike, eminem type guy,his girl friend, 3 little kids, brother comes out fatigue pants ,no shirt, just selling junk stuff and this bike, i mean everyone has a story and i am not one to judge if it is true , my job would be to research it and find out that led me here, i think my initial post should have had a question mark at the end , thanks to everyone for their responses, the helpful ones, the funny ones, the critical ones, what a great forum to join, thank you

seat should be ~level~, and the stem may need to be inserted a little deeper into the frame - see if there is a min. insert line showing.

I hoped there was a nice saddle under there. Also level the bars. Remove those partial bottle cages, or cage less bottle holders, whatever they are, put the bolts back in the holes, maybe get a single silver bottle cage on the downtube.
Could maybe get $500 in Portland, Seattle, SF. I'd ask $600 on pdx CL, stay firm for a couple weeks then consider lower offers.
Probably $350 in Omaha, or the like. Unless Omaha has a hotter road bike market than I'm imagining.

You asked what model. I believe it is down in the third tier from the top. Still it is a Pin. I am over 60 and have two Pin's and a Colnago. Age has nothing to do with owning a fine machine or opting for a cruiser instead. If you don't want it, sell it to @JamesRL.
BTW: you will add credibilty to your sales if you show the drive side of the bike.
