one of the things that makes me love my LBS is that they don't encourage people to nurse this sort of bike along. I saw an impeccable Free Spirit on their junk pile waiting for the recycling guy to come around. Looked like it had never been ridden

You see many a Free Spirit in LBS and even low cost/free bike coop's scrap piles that look better than this one just pass on. These bikes are just a waste of space.
