Canadian made Raleigh aging help please.
I saved this Raleigh from the dump today. Overall the paint is in very good shape and the bike looks nice.
I plan on using it for fun rides around the neighborhood when my wife wants to ride along, and other occasions when having a bike along would be handy or just fun.
I did some homework. I'm pretty certain it's a mid grade to low grade version Grand Prix. No idea on the age, so I have no plans on sinking any real money into it. Just clean it up, cables and tires and enjoy it. I'd just like to find a close estimate on the age. 90's, early 2k's.
It has suntour shifters and derailleurs.
Seat stay badge says Made in Canada.
The sticker above the bottom bracket says Tange 5. Seamless tubing.
Here's a couple of pics.

I would have saved it from the dump as well. If it fits you it would make a great around town bike. I noticed that the head badge was stamped with Raleigh Nottingham, England. Was it built under license in Canada? There are resources to look up serial numbers online. You may want to try to date it.

Tange No. 5 is pretty low end straight gauge (0.9mm walls) tubing, and the sticker indicates just the three main frame tubes are No. 5. Stays and fork blades could be anything.
From the 1988 Tange catalog:

79-80 is my guess. Ser# will say for sure. All the 70 to 80s Canadian Raleighs (Built in Quebec) have had the Nottingham Headbadge.

Looked at the serial number this morning when I got back to work. RD604422. From the Headbadge it appears to be 1976. I'm a bit shocked at that to be honest. No matter, it's going to be a fairly easy job to get it back on the road and start enjoying it.

That stem looks like it may be well above the minimum insertion line; if so, that's dangerous.

Oh it was. I did a little bit of work on it today. Lowering that stem was the first thing that happened. The wedge was almost showing. Put the bars back into the position they're supposed to be in. I'll be riding it some by the weekend.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
79-80 model with what I suspect my be a slightly bent fork which may explain why such a shiny bike was in the dump... I'd check that.
