Am I making a mistake? Selling new cross check for Miyata 610
I bought a new Surly Cross Check about four months ago and am now feeling like it is not exactly the bike for me. First off, I knew I was giving up lugs and a quill stem for the advantage of a new bike but now I am really missing the beauty of a lugged frame and fork. Second, the Cross Check is a little small for me (52cm). Most riders would say it fits me fine but I prefer less seat post showing and I want to get my bars up high. I'm looking for advice to either stay with the Cross Check or sell it (for hopefully over $1,000 including Brooks b17 special) and purchase a Miyata 610 size 54cm or even 58cm and upgrade some parts (handlebars, bar end shifters, crankset, freewheel, tires). Ideally I'd like to have some $ left over from the sale of the Cross Check as well.

While the Cross Check is a worthy modern bike...the 610 is also a worthy, if older, bike. I think that you should be able to sell the CC and buy the 610 with some upgrades...and still pocket some $...sounds like you simply need encouragement...and...while you mention a 610...I would say...buy a good, vintage bike in your size...and not be quite so specific...

Strip the Surly's parts and unload the frame. Swap the parts over to the Miyata and sell of it's old parts. You'll lose a little money but big deal. The Miyata will have a sweet modern setup. Or, like dude said, just find a great older frame that fits you well and go the same route. Remember that you may need to have the frame spread to 130mm.

It's all up to you and how you feel about the bike.
I almost traded a nice, overhauled 90s road bike for, in many people's opinion, a worse bike in worse condition, just because it was cooler and spoke to me more. I would have done it but the seller backed out.
