Need help identifying my Bianchi Trofeo
Hi forum members. I recently purchased a Bianchi Trofeo and have attached a bunch of pictures. Here are the particulars:
S/N T109A5
sticker “made in Italy"
Suntour Superbe Pro Rear Derailleur "LH"
Suntour Superbe Front Derailleur
Ofmega Super Competizione Crank 170
Bianchi Dropouts
Suntour down tube shifters
Modolo breaks and levers
OMAS "made in Italy" headset 25 x 24
Fork: Bianchi Special Tubi Rinforzati Produzione Columbus
I believe the Suntour was produced in the mid 80's, and since the RD is pre-index shifting, I believe that puts the Groupo before 1987. I recently replaced the original cork brake pads which were marked "Modolo Sinterized World Champion 1982." The hoods and tape are also new. I have about $700 into it. I'm pretty happy with the general condition of the groupo and frame. Does anyone know the year produced and have any details on the model and value?

Good Morning Bianch, welcome to the forums. Great looking Bianchi!! That is a '85 model, the Special tubing is a dead give away. In '86 Bianchi started using Formula 2 tubing.
Great job cleaning her up and ditching those Sinterized brake pads, they were that good new. If you have 700 into that your probably at the top of the value curve. Althpough the SuperBee Pro is nicer than my Sprint (although indexed) I had a tough time getting $500 for it over the last few months. The real value in this bike is the ride just enjoy that beautiful machine.
Are these the new Kool Stop blocks? I haven't tried them yet but was glad to see they came out with them.

Thanks Bianchi Goddess. I was hoping you'd weigh in. Glad to know the age and value. I don't plan on selling it, but rather preserving it's beautiful color and design.
You asked about the brake blocks. Yes, they're Kool Stops. Here's where I found them on eBay: Kool Stop Bicycle Brake Blocks Pads Refills Inserts Modolo Set of 4 Black | eBay They fit into the cassette quite well.
However, once installed, they create their own set of problems:
The entire original rim, including the braking surface, appears to have been anodized, which I'm guessing was done in order to interact best with the cork Modolo brake pads. Unfortunately, using rubber pads, the brakes squeal like a stuck pig, and caused a lot of hand vibration. So in order to address this issue, I lightly sanding the braking surface using sandpaper, then steel wool, parallel to the wheel, but stopping short of creating enough abrasion to expose the aluminum from a distance. Doing so has reduced the decibel level from tornado siren to that of a growling dog! It also helps to modulate these brakes, which have a lot more grab that my race bike's Enve carbon wheel set.
I used an aftermarket Cane Creek hood because they are available in a color that mimics the period-appropriate gum rubber. The fit is about 90%, but the ends aren't long enough to tuck under the bar tape. If I did it again, I'd probably pay the extra $20 for a Modolo hood.
