1993 Specialized Stumpjumper value?
Hi all,
A 1993 Stumpjumper (rigid) popped up on my local Craigslist. It's enticing because it's in basically new condition (paint has a few nicks but is overall 95% intact), has all the original parts except for the upgraded wheels, and it has Tange Prestige tubing The seller wants $190, but I think I'd be able to talk him down on the price a bit. What would you pay for a bike like this?
Here are its specs: 1993 Specialized Stumpjumper - BikePedia

The old school stumpjumpers are fine bikes and vintage mtbs are undervalued compared to vintage road bikes. $190 for a tange prestige tubing stumjumper with deore lx components that's in "new" condition is a very solid deal. I'd go and buy it before someone else does.
The bike looks to be in fine shape, 1993 stumpjumper specialized 19" Large frame umma gumma tires
Buy it. I'm surprised it's sitting around in a city the size of Denver.

When I posted pictures of my 1991 specialized team stumpjumper (top of the line bike in '91) and asked for a valuation, I was told that the bike was not worth much. I've seen other threads saying the same thing. Has the value of these bikes gone up the last 2-3 years? I'm thinking that maybe it has. Certainly $190 is a very fair deal for a rider.

Still learning
Well @bikemig, you know there are more than few posts here from the same offenders that start with a comment like this, "there are so many mtb's for sale, they aren't collectible, and aren't worth more than $100."
However, the versatility, utility, and durability of these 80s and 90s bikes have proven their value.
Top of the line rigid Trek 930s, 950s, 970s, Specialized Stumpjumpers, and Gary Fisher Hoo Koo e Koo, Bianchi Grizzly, are some of the bikes that can probably support values in excess of $200. IMHO, the taller frames, 18" and up, are worth the most.
This summer, I sold a tall 930 for low $200s. The buyer was using it for a tourer of the Keeweenaw Peninsula. In prior years I have sold 930s, GF Advance, Bianchi Osprey for $200-$240. These are sold in fully refurbished and ready to ride condition with very good paint.
Since craigslist won't allow the links to nice big photos, the marketing takes longer.

I'm with you. I think these bikes are undervalued. I'm just seeing an upward trend when it comes to the collective opinion of the list as to the prices for these bikes. They are incredibly versatile bikes and can be used for anything from gravel riding to touring to commuting.
There are great deals out there, but the values have been inching up there on the more interesting examples.
I have a 1986 Miyata that I picked up for next to nothing and I have a blast rebuilding it into various useful configs.
Currently my fishing bike.
