Ripoffs?
Hand Made Nishiki Tange 1 Road Bike Shimano 600 56cm
Sekai 120 Japanese Touring Commuter Road Bike
Vintage Schwinn road bike custom-built
Vintage Peugeot road bike
Very interested in all the above. They seem to fit and seem to be pretty good road bikes ... but I'm just unsure on some of their prices.

They are all overpriced, IMHO. Not terrible bikes, just too spendy. Quite a bit of size difference, too. How tall are you? Have you calculated your Cycling Inseam measurement? Very different configuration on that Sekai; do you think you'd like an upright bike or a more road racer setup like the other three? It's an important distinction if you're going to be riding a lot.

The Peugeot seems to be a mid 80's entry level model with a straight gauge, high tensile, carbon steel frame and fork (not CrMo as advertised), Way overpriced Although it's in pretty good condition, actual value might not even be half of the $450 asking price. Something like a little over 200 bucks max on a good day.......

I would not call the Seller a Ripoff Artist unless there's something untruthful about his claims on these bikes.
I will call him a "Flipper" because that is what he is. He bought those bikes from somebody, dusted them off, slapped a few new parts on and put them up for sale.
The value of any item is in the eye of the Seller and the Buyer. If the Seller can find a Buyer who is willing to pay that amount, I can't see how you could call that a Ripoff. "Buyer Beware" is the rule on CraigsList.
Personally I'm not thrilled by any of those bikes, and would not pay half of the asking price, heck, I wouldn't pay a quarter of the asking price for any of those bikes.
Have you seen those bikes? Have you ridden them, and do they fit you, and whatever purpose you envision for the them? If so, and if you can afford one or more of them, then negotiate with the Seller. I'm sure he padded the prices so Potential Buyers could work him on the price and figure they were getting a great deal while he still makes a bundle.

The smallest bike is for a 5'8" rider, the tallest bike is for a 6'3" rider. Figure out sizing first. It appears to be at least two different sellers.

That being said, all of these bikes are overpriced...unless Gainesville is a hotter market than any other in the US! But there are usually people that will end up paying those prices...if the sellers are patient.
I also agree with everyone that suggests figuring out the size...that is a key to great ride...then...when you have your size...go try the bike...ride it...I have found that some "perfect size" bikes for me...do not ride the way I like...it is very subjective!
Good luck in your search...

A lot of really good advice on this thread. You want to figure out your size first.

I don't quite get this. Couldn't he sell that stem for almost $200 on ebay by itself?

the bikes you have shown have many dissimilarities, not only in size, but also age and riding style. As others have said, find your size and type of bike then start narrrowing down. All are nice bikes, but not prices most here would pay for them.

Qualitywise I really like the Tri-A Equipe.
But I wouldn't pay $500 for it.... There was a Tri-A in good condition that languished on the Chicago CL for about a month at $350 and I think it finally sold at $300. Heck of a bike for that price.

On the other hand.... when it comes to putting a price on a used bike, location is critical. I live near Toronto, a big Canadian city with lots of YOUNG people - and 3 or 4 universities full of impoverished eco-friendly snots (a.k.a. students).
I know that the technology required to manufacture a bicycle greatly exceeds the effort required to achieve two cases of domestic beer, 12 chicken wings and a medium pizza (double cheese, no anchovies), but a lot of people still seem to believe that a used 10-speed Raleigh or Peugeot in decent shape should cost about the same as two cases of domestic beer, 12 chicken wings and a medium pizza (double cheese, no anchovies) even though a used bike will last decades longer.
And when a student is done with a bike, he or she can sell it. The opposite is true with used beer, chicken wings and pizza......
So..... what is a poor student to do ?? If the choice is to buy something new new "ON SALE" at Canadian Tire for $200 that is made in China and comes with a 28-day guarantee... or buy a used Raleigh or Peugeot for $150.... or spend a thousand dollars per year on bus tickets and subway tokens, I would hope he or she would opt for the old Raleigh.

I'm deeply mystified by the members who know what other sellers are getting for their craigslist bikes for sale. Yes, a few members disclose that info here, but by and large, only the buyer and the seller know.

Therefore, I think it sold at $300 or thereabouts.
