1972/73 Schwinn Paramount Value
my father is thinking of selling his 72 or 73 paramount(#F73173) but I would like to get an idea from you guys what its worth so i can use that as a starting point. Its all stock but brakes have been upgraded to record, stem is aftermarket(stock stem is included), and the wheels have been relaced to 700c mavic hoops. The bike is a size 62cm
so what do you guys think for a rough value. The frame is in good shape but dose have its share of nicks and scrapes in the paint.

June 1973 P13-9. 24" frame size, Opaque Blue (one of my favorite colors).
With the original Cinelli stem, I'd estimate somewhere in the $800 - $1,200 range depending on condition of the paint and assuming everything (except the rims and brakes) are original.

you wont get it from me but Id say schwinn enthusiasts will pay $600+ for that.

Scooper knows his Schwinns. Based on my limited knowledge of 70s Paramounts, that value sounds about right.
Beautiful bike by the way. If its in as good a condition as it appear first glance, it will certainly command $1,000+. If I had the spare cash I'd be all over it.

Thanks guys, what's the best place to sell something like this. I am in no rush to sell it. In general do you guys like doing face to face cash sales? I have sold alot of stuff on eBay over the years and no matter how well you document the condition of it you always get that one person who isn't happy once they un box it.

FWIW, when I sell on ebay I specify local pickup, but state that I will deliver the bike to a local bike shop of the buyers choice for inspection, packing, insuring and shipping at buyer's expense (the buyer pays the LBS directly using PayPal or a credit card). That way, once I deliver the bike locally any damage or loss in shipping is between the buyer, the LBS, and the carrier.
So far, this arrangement has worked well.

You might very well be able to find a buyer on the for sale page of the C&V forum here, too. You need an upgraded membership to post there, though.

Question - were the barcons an aftermarket add?
I did not see barcons in the '72 or '73 Schwinn Catalogues.
The first time I saw barcons was on the '74 Voyageur II. Please do not misunderstand the question - I am not asking if the bike is a Voyageur II. The color choices on the VII were listed as silver mist and opaque red - and it was, as mentioned, a '74.
I wasn't around serious biking in the early '70's, other than a tricycle, maybe the first stingray by then, so Paramounts may have had 100's of factory options, including barcons. That is my question. Are the barcons a factory option, or add.

Finger Tip Controls (barcons) were an extra cost option. Campy barcons were an extra $10.95 and Schwinn Approved ratchet barcons were an extra $8.95. Here's the 1972 Paramount Order Form.

There are a couple of things I wish I could go back in time and do:
1. Order a P15 Paramount the way I want
2. Order a 426 Hemi Barracuda from the factory
Forget going back in time and betting on games, buying stock in Apple and all that stuff - Paramount and 'Cuda would suffice!

BTW very nice bike additions this year. i am just getting into Trek's, and looked hard at some 560's.
The PX-10 and RB-1 are iconic classics (that I do not own yet), so kudos.

I sold a 1973ish red Paramount for $1200 in 2010. It was on the market again a few weeks ago, the asking price was $800 and it was sold in an instant.
