The ULTIMATE in ridiculously over-priced Ebay bikes- The guy has had this on Ebay incessantly for two-and-a-half years, that I am aware of- probably longer!

That is a Marketing Strategy the Seller is employing. This strategy can promote offers if properly used, or drive away Buyer interest if the asking price is so out of bounds that Potential Buyers don't bother to make an offer after viewing the item.
Everything the Seller is offering for sale is the same way, and everything he/she has sold has been an accepted lower price offer.
The Seller has not sold a single bike, although several are listed. The asking prices are too far out (as already stated can be a problem with this strategy).

Here's how this one goes
Bike Owners wife: "You need to sell some of this junk, we have taxes to pay!"
Bike Owner : "But baby-- i'm trying -- can't you see i have everything listed on ebay?"
Bike Owner's Wife: "You're right - i suppose its a soft market -- we'll get through this some other way "

LOL! I could just imagine hearing the seller talk to his girlfriend: "Yeah babe, just loan me another grand! You know, when my bikes sell, I'll have plenty of money and pay you back!"
Nah, marketing strategy might be to price something 10-25% over what it's truly worth. At 1000% over true value, and having them sit on Ebay for YEARS, I doubt anyone would make any offers. When you see prices like that, you just assume the seller is insane. (And he probably is).

Those are nice bikes... but....
The 50th Anniversary Colnago is a classic, and may slowly appreciate if never ridden. Perhaps in a century inflation will catch up with the asking price. Then again, those of us who grew up on steel framed bikes will all die off, and one will be left with the young pups that believe everything must be aluminum, titanium, or carbon.
The 8-speed Klein probably hasn't bottomed out yet, so new stuff such as 11 speed, more Carbon Fiber, and etc will just push the value lower. Sitting around unsold just means it is loosing more value.

Exactly- same as the classic car market- where all the people who were interested in the 20's-50's stuff have died/are dying off, and now the '60's and 70's cars are taking center stage, because they're the ones that the *now* older generation grew-up with. (Although, do people really attach a nostalgic value to bikes? I like old bikes, but only because of the riding characteristics; uniqueness; and aesthetics of them. I'd like to have a 70's De Rosa or Cinelli or Colnago- even though I didn't5 even know that those bikes existed back in the day. Meanwhile, I have no love for the hi-ten 10-speed department store bikes i actually grew up with in the 70's. Although i sure do have lots of great memories of the tiome period)
