Cannondale Team Saeco
Hey guys,
Been wanting to get my first road bike for serious road biking. I have only ridden mountain bikes my whole life, and want to get a decent road bike for some longer distance rides. Hoping to eventually be able to do a Century in due time, but if not then anywhere from 50-75 miles would be good too.
Is $550 a reasonable asking price for this Cannondale Team Saeco? I know it's a bit older, but was looking for a decent entry level road bike around $500 or less.
Cannondale 56 cm Team Saeco Road Bike
Thanks.

It's been posted for a month? If it had been recently serviced, that would be an OK price. My concern would be why it's been up that long and hasn't sold.

Would it be a good choice for an entry level beginners road bike? To ride anywhere from 50-100 miles?

Its not an entry level bike, but its a very nice enthusiast or entry racing bike. The ride on the Cannondale's is harsh, but it can indeed carry you 100 miles and beyond.

Big chainring teeth, look rather worn?
I think it is not a great price, not a terrible price. Cosmetics not great. IF it fits you, I'd offer $400 and if he doesn't take it, move on.

Joe Englert,
Where are you located? Haha
I've just been trying to find a good/decent beginner road bike for longer distance rides. Just passed up on a 2001 Cannondale R400 this past week for $340 and now I'm regretting it.

Just a follow up....there are lots of really nice road bikes you can get in the 500 and lower price range..seems like in my neck of the woods, at least, there are two or three that come up daily on Craigslist. Good steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber, for that matter.

IMHO...not a bad price for this bike. It will have a bit of a harsh ride as opposed to other bikes you could get in the same price range. You should be able to get a very nice steel bike at this price point...but...again...this is not a bad price...and, with it having been out there for a month, you should be able to negotiate a bit.
Why has it been there, at that price? I would offer that...
(1) It has been the "winter" months...bikes do not typically move as fast
(2) On CL, in my area (Atlanta), you do not see as much movement on bikes above $300...and when you move to $400, slower, $500 slower...you get the drift...it takes longer the higher the price typically...as CL buyers are not looking for that price range...
My suggestion...if it is not too much of a drive...contact the seller...and see if he will allow a test ride. Some will, some won't. If you cannot test ride it, particularly since it is your first road bike...then pass. If the seller is ok with a test ride...and it is not too far, then go test ride it! If you like the ride...then offer $400...see where it goes from there. At the $500 price, it is not bad...
Also, there has been a similar bike on the ATL CL (off and on) for the last year at $900...just for comparison.

I know of a LBS for a longtime has an identical and sized SAECO frameset (CF fork, DA headset) including DA crank for $250.
As whole, perhaps something fun to hammer down on once and awhile but think you'd have to be fairly hardcore to ride on a regular basis. There's so many other great bikes out there for that money. Good luck-

These are nice entry level racing bikes. The price is on the high side considering the drive train looks fairly heavily worn and partially mismatched and the shifters which are pricey to replace fix look beat up. If everything works good exspecialy the shifters $400 would be a fair price, if not I would say pass on this one.

The triple on that bike is a plus in NW AR. Still I imagine the market in Little Rock is pretty slow for higher end bikes. It's tough moving a higher end bike in smaller markets and they can sit and sit and sit on CL for a long time. I'd offer as someone else suggested a lower price say $400 and move on if the S doesn't want to budge. I'm also not really excited by the road rash on the STI lever; make sure the bike shifts cleanly before buying.
