Shogun Katana
Anyone have any experience or input on the Shogun Katana? I've never seen the frame before, and have no clue as to what components are there. Looks early 90's to me, and the asking price is $200. Thinking of it as a backup roadie.

I think that is closer to very late '80s. The RD looks like a shipmano light action to me, but the rest could be Exage Sport or something.
I always thought Shoguns were pretty cool bikes and wouldn't mind having one of their Triple Triangle bikes like this one.

I agree that is a fair price on a nice bike.

Still learning
Considering what @top506 buys with a 6-pack at the local dump, it seems a tad high.
In all seriousness, I would offer no more than $150 for a Shimano SIS equipped not so well known manufacturer. The seller's stated trade for MTBs seem to indicate $150 is about the range he'd settle at.

Death fork? Naaaah!!
I wouldn't mind a triple triangle frame. Shogun, Nishiki, Nashbar, GT, whatever. Might even throw a 12-pack for it.......

Shogun bicycles were definitely nice. I think they all came equipped with Tange tube sets. Probably on par with Centurions. Even the entry level Shoguns were very nice. High end Shoguns like the Ninja & the Samurai are very sought after. I would definitely go check out that Katana.

I was going to offer $100, with the bennefit I drive to it (50 miles). My major concern is he states it's a 56, and I'm a fit fanatic. I prefer 56.5-58.0. Some 56s run short & the HT looks more 54.

Throw 2x7 Tourney brifters on it? Stem reach looks pretty long. Nifty bike with a very cool name. Buy!

I sold one of those a few years back for $250. It was a cool bike with an interesting frame made of Tange Infinity.

I hate those thumb lever brifters! I also don't think this bike is worth refitting wit new 31.8 bars. That's my Holdsworth Mistral project. This bike will be my pre-season trainer that I won't be paranoid about winter road chemical corrosion before they sweep the streets. It is cool enough to be in my bike quiver though.

Not sure about the 31.8 comment. My set fit on standard 22.2 bars with a 25.4 clamp area, the bars that came with the Centurion.
Anyway, I'd ride them, if I wanted 7-speed brifters on an older bike. No reservations at all. PG

Have you tried them? I had no experience with them before I installed a set on a Centurion Super Elite re-build for my daughter's college friend. They're pretty nifty, and the action is smooth. Surprising, really. Cheap, too, at ~$85 with cables delivered.
