Miele Lupa, Shimano 105
Hi. I just picked this up. Its a late 80s Miele with Columbus tubing. Components: Shimano 105 group set, TTT stem with Serrota etching, Campagnolo Omega wheels with American Classic hubs. Its too darn big for me. I bought it b/c it was a deal I could not walk from. Here is the issue: the anodizing on the cranks is "spidering". I tried steel wool; it didn't help. They look bad. Also, one of the brake levers is damaged. So, my thought was to sell it and pursue a similar bike that is my size. But, I think the bike has too many issues and would not command much. So, the second option is sell the parts that are not damaged, headset/stem, frame etc.
I tried to get an idea from Ebay about the value of the frame. I could not find much. Is this frame "special" enough that there are active buyers out there? What is the value on a frame like this? I would want to sell it at a price where I "leave meat on the bone", (ie a good deal). Thanks

I like that bike. It's 100 as is; 2-300 flipped in the sunny south. But we don't see many Mieles. I've rehabbed 2 and was very impressed with the frames. Perfect welds; sturdy paint and good colors. Don't know what you paid; but that's a good bike for 100 or less. Campy is outa my league; makes my observations kind of moot....

But to the cranks.....assuming the pics are before steel wool; go ahead and polish them out. You won't lose any value and you're going to gain curb appeal...otherwise NOS is available, but not practical....

Sell the stem separately.
If it's Serotta pantographed and in good shape it's worth around $100.

You either have to repair it: rusty fork crown, polish crankset, replace brake lever, or part it out. If you part it out, you are going to need to deal with the rusty fork crown or the frame set will go cheap. Endless threads on this topic already.
Regardless, sell stem separately, as complete on the bike you will get nothing for it.
Since you are doing it solely for the $$, very doubtful repairing it makes any sense. Part out with rust abatement would be my plan. 105 parts don't bring that much, wheels show a lot of wear.

Frame is solid, but nothing super special. Columbus is a plus, even if a lower end tube set. Agree with above comments, part out for sure. I had one Miele, a Latina, and it rode great. Sadly it was too small for me and had to go.
