Bikes: No-name LH drive track. Also ride an Exxon Graftek, a Masi, a Trek R200 or a RR Boneshaker for fun!

All I have to go by is the rather poor quality photos, but here goes.
IF it really is a Motobecane Grand Record the Reynolds 531 frame alone is worth what he is asking assuming there is no crash damage such as bent/dented tubes.
The front and rear gear changers alone, IF in nice condition, are worth more than $50.
Having said this, many of the parts are not original and the handlebar stem is FAR too high. This FB-blocker might have damaged the steer tube or who knows what else.
So the two of you had a disagreement over the value of the bike. Happens all the time out here on the Forums. Don't get real upset. Sorry you missed a (maybe) really good deal.

Some folks would buy that Cyclone RD for most of a 50 dollar bill.

Sometimes I have gotten comments about the price of a bike I was selling. One memorable guy told me my bike was only worth $225 (I was asking $275). His data or facts? Zilch. My data or facts? I had sold the exact same bike model several times, anywhere from $300 to $350. I priced this one a little lower as it was the off season. I did not go into this detail with the buyer, instead I told him fine and loaded up my bike. I sold it a few hours later for full asking price.
Any of the bike shop brands made a full line of bikes, from basic to great, and everything in between. I've sold the exact rear derailleur off that bike for well over $50. He has the matching front derailleur too, less value, but nice. If that is a Nitto Technomics stem, definitely value there too.
I'd probably block you too as you were throwing out comments with no data to back them up.
Components do NOT match a 1971 Grand Record. In addition, chrome fork is troubling and probably not original. If so, value takes a serious hit there. More checking is definitely required there.
Components are close to a 1978 model, which would have a Vitus 172 frame (still nice and still has good value, but not as much as earlier ones).
If not for the terrible presentation and handlebars, it would have been gone already. Someone might be able to get it for $200 and with a little work, have a nice deal.
Now in my market, it would be worth less, more like $125 in its current state. Properly refurbished and ready to ride? $250 locally here, and more on eBay.

$275? Really? I wouldn't put the value much over $100 based on what I'm seeing, which is a nice pair of Cyclone derailleurs. The ad is terrible, and the photos suggest the seller has done nothing to ensure the bike is rideable.

I think that I might have blocked you, too. It takes thousands of hours to develop expertise on any subject, so unless you've devoted a few years of serious study to vintage bikes, it'd be best that you don't offer opinions outside of your direct experience. with certain bikes or components.
Plus, your style is a bit, um, uncontrolled. Treat people the way that you'd like to be treated. You know, "do unto others..." and all that.

It appears as if it still has Road brake levers and downtube shifters.
I periodically pick up old drop bars, stems, and seats in the $5 to $10 range.
So.. assuming it is mostly working.
$20 worth of parts, and a little tinkering,
And one would have a nice classic Motobecane road bike (with a very small frame).
$150 to $250 wouldn't be bad as-is.

my name is Jim
I would have a hard time believing any Grand Record frame would sell for $275. That is certainly not my experience. But yes this bike is certainly worth more than $50.

The Craigslist Ad has dropped to $175 which isn't too bad if someone wants to swap the bars back, upgrade the seat, and do a tune-up.
As far as frames, There are three Grand Record Frames in E-Bay sold listings, $63, $109, & $154, and two currently listed with buy-it-now prices of $150 and $300.
Anyway, the $175 sounds like not too bad of a price.

It is a Grand Jubile. Suntour dropouts and components give it away. 3 tubes 531. Silver front fork. From what I see, parts look stock except bars/levers which are easily swapped out.
Not a terrible deal especially in San Fran.

The presentation and the bars on that bike hold the price way down. Now if any of the regulars here got a hold of that bike, It would be a $300 bike in short time.

Were you saying it wasn't worth $50 as a pricing ploy, or to be a mean/smart aleck? Either way, you should have may be sent a private message, and maybe not have sent a public slap to the Seller.
Personally, I would not pay more the $50-$75 for that bike either, BUT I have no experience or interest in that type of bike.
