Windsor professional w campy components
Hi forum,
Got an opportunity to by a blue windsor professional blue w campy components for $250. Never flipped one of these before, but is there room to flip. Or is $250 the top rate for it? Guy says it's a 1982 w some frame rust. I think it's a 70s version though. Comes w 2 wheel sets. One custom.

We'd need to see photos to know for sure, but if the frame is sound I'd say that's a very good deal. Even if it's not it's probably a decent deal just on the parts.

"Campy" came (and still comes) in a number of different levels, and ages.
$250 may not be a bad price. But, unless it s something spectacular, I wouldn't expect to resell it for a lot more than that. Are you planning on giving it a full tune-up?
Buy it is a "rider".

A professional would typically have an NR group, but you're right, we can't know without the photos. If it has that group and is in good shape, $250 is a very good price.

Lots of bikes that once were 100% Campy now remain with about 10% Campy and 90% other brand components after 40 years of use.
Of course, it is a good point that components can be worth more than the whole bike.

What I can access is that the bike may not be a Windsor Professional, without seeing the bottom of the bottom bracket and front and rear lugs (usually have Cinelli three hole drill), Mexico's version of a Cinelli SC. In fact the rear seat stay does not have the Cinelli fastback configuration! As for the parts some Campagnolo and lots of unknowns. It's not a flipper for $250, maybe $100 or $125 will give a little profit, but consider time spent a part of the cost, too.

That pic is useless for evaluating the bike. That doesn't look like a CampI RD and the cranks could be CampI, Ofmega, Giepiemme or one or two other clones.
IMHO if you have to ask about the value as a potential flipper you have little business flipping. I also agree with the others that at $250 you not likely to make much off this if your an honest flipper and doo all the work. If you just knock the dust off and give it quick rubdown with pledge you might make $50.

Looks to have only Campy brakes and DT shifters and there nothing special. Everything else looks to be a mix of just good mid level stuff fine to ride but not much value. Would be a OK deal as a rider with both wheel sets if everything is good but not a flipper.

i see a $450 bike where i live.
that's given the frame decals are representative of the actual make/model, it's fully overhauled, includes a $45 campy nr rd, and rides like a pro model should.
is there a tubing composition decal? might check the steerer for a columbus stamp.
the seat cluster nor the lugs look like '70s windsors of this level. but it also has top tube cable guides and bottle bosses, probably making it an '80s bike. just guessing. more research is needed.

...never seen one in that color, but those look like the right decals. FWIW, here are two from the 70's for comparison/details.

Your seat luster looks to be in keeping with my orange one, but that photo tells me little, because I can't see the frame and component details.
Swell bikes, but they sold originally for about half of what the Italian makes sold for, even though comparable in ride and componentry. Thus they do not command a premium in pricing. Swell under the radar riders, though. If my size and I wanted to ride it, 250 would be tempting.
500 bucks might work on CL here if it's spiffed up, the right time of year, and all Campy...I think maybe yours has a Cyclone RD, but like I said I can't see much in your photo.

...thx. True dat on orange. I just bought a Columbus framed Windsor touring bike from this age/era that I had no idea they ever made. 300 bucks, local CL. I haven't overhauled it yet, so no photos, but an interesting mix of components, with Suntour Cyclone, Campy crank, and Universal side pulls. I'm constantly amazed at what shows up used here.

^ sounds quite similar to my '80 windsor touring elite.
it's a really nice bike. i wish i knew what frame tubes are columbus sl and what's columbus sp. or maybe the whole thing is a mix of both?
it came with a super record headset, universal brakes, 1st gen cyclone derailleurs, sugino mighty comp crank with hollow spindle, and tubulars with ofmega hubs. i switched out the cyclone for campy nr to make it a little more italian. and i put some nice clinchers on it. unfortunately it's a respray. it's really rad, but people like original paint and decals.
don't really know why it hasn't sold yet. it probably would with a leather saddle on there.

...yes, that's the bike. This one is pretty intact in terms of paint and decals, so it ought to be a relatively easy project. People are weird about original paint and decals.
That champagne beige Pro came to me with original paint, but all the decals had been stripped. You can buy Windsor decals from Velocals, and he seems to have some of them marked down right now. I had to bite the bullet and pay the full 40 bucks. They're not the Touring Elite ones, but you could probably make it look a little more official with a headbadge and a seat tube decal.

^ yeah, maybe a headbadge. some of them just have 'w's for the headbadge. a pretty 'w' made of tin would look cool.
