Basso Gap 72
Hi folks,
Been lurking on this forum for a couple of years and I'm in the market for a vintage racer and thought some of might be kind enough to help. I came across a Basso Gap 72 on eBay that is just about within my budget. I don't mind overpaying a bit because I live in Ireland and the market here is so small for vintage bikes that I have found it impossible to find something in my size.
Anyway, is this massively overpriced or worth the asking? From what I have read on this forum they are beautiful bikes to ride.

Odd collection of parts; overpriced but perhaps not massively so esp. if living in an area where it is difficult to find bikes you like at your price point.
The seller is asking a lot of money for a bike that is not fixed up (brake hoods are torn) and the bike has some obvious cosmetic issues.
I think you can do better.

Most of the Basso framesets I've seen on eBay are priced higher that that whole bike. I don't know if that bike and components is over priced but from what I've seen Basso's priced at I thought that was a good deal.

Why not post a WTB and see what members might have? What is it that you are looking for, group-set, model/brand and price range?
Be specific about what you really want the bike for....hills, flats, touring city use etc. If you find something you like I would say buy it, trying to save a little and shop a lot is also a loss of cycling/pleasure time .....sometimes not worth all the effort to save a few dollars.
Good Luck, Ben

good point about the eBay prices on the frame; I was thinking more of the odd mix of parts and the overall condition of the bike.

I regularly look at the Basso framests, would like to build up a resto-mod on a Basso frame but haven't found the right frame at the right deal yet.

Thanks for advice folks. Maybe I will just keep on looking and wait for something that has been looked after lovingly by it's owner. My bike for the last couple of years has been an old Raleigh road bike which has served me well but as it's my only mode of transport and I use it daily I feel that an upgrade is badly needed. This will be my first proper vintage racing bike, I don't mind overpaying a bit if I get a bike that I love cycling everyday and for longer rides in the summer. The price will soon be forgotten about if it's a beautiful, comfortable and fun ride.
