Urgent: does skewer go with wheel or separate?

I sold someone a wheel and now he wants the skewer. Is that typical to give it together?

wheels are typically furnished with the skewer when purchased new. if he wants it, and you need it, offer to sell it to him, or suggest that he can get a new one for about $10 at the LBS

This is my post. I thought I was selling the wheel-only for $50 since I still need a skewer and now the guy is mad that it doesn't come with a skewer. What would be fair here?

There is no hard and fast rule that when you buy a wheel, you get a skewer. Typically you get what you pay for when buying used and you can't ask the buyer for "more" after the sale.

A wheel is useless without a skewer. If the skewer is pictured with the wheel in the ad, I would expect it to be included in the sale.
If the pic didnt have a skewer or the ad said 'skewer not included' or something like that, then no it isnt owed.

Yes, definitely. Don't "offer to sell it to him," if you have the matching skewer it should come with the wheel.

The pic makes it look like you're selling wheel with a skewer but the buyer should have asked for it at the point of sale. Did the buyer ask for the skewer at the point of sale? If so, did you say yes?

That's an early flat skewer, which are harder to find. The pic shows it, and the description doesn't say it's NOT included. Judgement call, as the buyer, I would've asked if it was included. If I was in your shoes, I'd be inclined to send it with the wheel and find a suitable replacement for myself. Would that skewer "match" your new wheel anyway?

Oh, you owe the skewer. Its prominently displayed in multiple pictures. You dont say 'no skewer included' or anything like that.

I would say yes in this case since it is pictured and is the matching skewer for the hub. The buyer likely wouldn't have brought this wheel if the pictured skewer wasn't included.

Yes, I gave it to him. I wish I had known as I probably could have asked for more, but I got a good deal on the bike so Oh well!

I've been on both sides of this, live and learn. If you're still profitable you're flying.

A good rule of thumb for selling: Anything that's shown in the picture is part of the sale, unless it's specifically stated that it's NOT included. A skewer that's shown with the wheel in an ad would definitely be expected to be part of the sale unless it was explicitly stated that it was not included.

BTW, perfectly good generic skewers can typically be found for $7-8. A Campy Record hub is another thing altogether, and a Campy Record hub without a skewer is worth noticeably less than one with the original Campy skewer.

When I'm getting ready to sell anything I make sure any part I want to keep is taken off before I post images and then I clearly state that the part is not included. Avoids hard feelings that way.

Cheers

Yes I am glad I was able to give it to a huge Campagnolo fan who cares very much about having every piece be campagnolo... I hadn't even heard of Campagnolo until two days ago.

It's also pretty awesome that I can post on this forum in the middle of a workday and instantly get responses before I even finished the craigslist transaction...

I concur with others; what ever's shown in the photo is part of the sale. You ended up doing the right thing and will sleep well tonight! You've also earned some credibility for any future deals you make.
