cute comical Peugeot ad

Hi everyone,

Well, after a few days' trawling the Bay Area CL for a cheap bike that doesn't need much work, I'm getting better at working out whether or not the prices are reasonable. What makes it a bit harder is that most people a) have no idea what year their bike is from and don't know how to check and b) automatically price their bike at $100 regardless of any other factor lol.

So I'm back here with another humble request for opinions, this time on a Peugeot: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bik/5673712160.html

I've of course emailed the seller to ask the year/model, but you experts on here seem to be able to tell at a single glance. They are asking a hundred bucks like everyone else I had a Peugeot for a while in the UK (was borrowing/babysitting it while a friend was away) and I loved it. I'm encouraged by the good opinions on other threads on this site.

Grateful in advance for your help,
Kate

I have a small hill near me to get to the Caltrain but apart from that I expect to be pootling around the city and Oakland. Not having brakes is a bit stupid I know but I'm just itching to get a bike soon... I will have to read more about the model. Thanks for your help!

There's obviously more than $100 in that bike. Is it stolen??

Hi Alex, I'm not sure how I'd know. He just said he was moving and wanted to sell fast. In any case I got myself a cheap yellow Schwinn Varsity with a broken chain and fixed it very cheaply at Bike Kitchen. Thanks again to everyone who advised along the way!

Oh for crying out loud. Not everything cheap is stolen. There is no indication this bike is stolen.

The bike has no signs of being stolen and is really only worth about what it is being sold for. It's a cheaper steel frame that has been converted to a SS/FG with semi junk wheelset and tires, the only semi valuable part I see on the bike is the track bars, everything looks kinda random probably whatever they could get cheap to build it up as a SS/FG.
