1986 Nishiki International $260?

Hi all,

Just wondering what your thoughts are on the price. Looks to be in good condition. Any thoughts are appreciated.

looks fairly nice.

SunTour components are good.

if it fits, $260 is quite reasonable.

It all depends on condition. If the wheels spin true, no dents & bad scrapes, & everything works then yes. It's worth $260. Just make sure it only needs a few new parts not a complete rebuild.

I'd be using the heli-arc construction with the ugly stress rings as an excuse to get the seller down to at least $200.

Haha I thought about that tactic. No doubt I would get, "Well I'm a bike mechanic and I think they are cool looking. You don't see that these days."

Looks to be in good shape and worth the asking price if the wheels are in good shape they look a bit worn in the pics.

Anyone have any experience with these Sprint shifters?

They're supposed to ratchet when downshifting, I believe.

These shifter's could be used 6/7 speed accushift indexed or strait friction. They work nicely as 6 speed indexed or strait friction but can be a little fickle setup wise in 7 speed.

VeloBase.com - Component: SunTour SL-IP00-B, Sprint / Cyclone / Superbe Pro

If the bike works as good as it looks, $260 is a fair price.

If it is road worthy but needs some work and it will need some work, a proper greasing at the least, then closer to $200.00.

If the bike is unrideable, then the value drops to a range of $100 to $150. Also...

How long has the bike been listed? That will have a lot to do with how open to a lower offer the present owner is.

AccuShift did not come out until 1987 and this bicycle is definitely the pre-index, 1986 version, as the 1987 version was Cyclone 7000 equipped, did not come in that colour scheme and used the Nishiki logo with the series bar. If the shift levers are OEM they are friction only versions. They do ratchet but are smoother and quieter due to smaller teeth.

To which I'd reply, "You're right, The joint technology looks just like Raleigh's Techniums, which were the subject of multiple recalls due to joint failure. If I'm going to be riding around on a bicycle that most people are going to mistake for a re-branded Technium, then I want to pay Technium prices!"
