advice on modernizing a 71 Raleigh Comp ?'s

I offered to update a stock competition for an old friend(original owner), if it were pristine I would probably advise against it but looks like i will plod ahead using bits and pieces I have laying around. I have a complete 105 9spd triple group including wheelset so I know I will have to reset the stays , are there any other problems with the drive train I will encounter? I had hoped to us the dual pivot calipers I have but the reach is far too short. Is it worth finding some longer reach calipers or just try to put the Weinmann 610's back in order ? If so would the STI levers work with the 610's ?. I also have some cable stops lined up . I owned a green one in 69 and he thinks this one is 71( white with robin's egg blue). , the brooks and Simplex RD are long gone. Thanks for reading and any advice you have to pass along. Bruce

Well, the BB will be 26 tpi, compared to 24 tpi for any modern bike. Who knows if STI levers will work with the old brakes? You are trying to fit components on a bike that was made 40 years before the components were. You are going to run into a lot of issues. Is it worth it? I doubt it.

I would try the Weinmanns with Koolstops. Otherwise, Tektro makes some long reach with old style bolts so you won't have to drill the fork. If it's a Carlton/Worksop built frame it may have a standard bottom bracket. Check the tab on the derailleur hanger. Some of the mid 70s came with Huret configuration and would need a washer or other work around to use a modern derailleur. I just gave my 74? with Huret Jubilee to the bike charity, no energy to fix it up. Look at some of the JPW 650b conversions in the C&V section. These are nice frames, worthy of whatever you want to put into them.

...what @shelbyfv said. Except all the ones I;ve worked on had 26tpi threading in the BB. But every time I say that someone comes in here and tells me about the standard ones he's seen. So I just don't know any more.

Plans for the adapter washer are here.
