Looking for the worth of this project bike. I think it may be columbus tubing-it does have a rdr dropout.
I have seen some here on the forums; but nothing like this. Thanks gurues

Beautiful bicycle.
Frame constructed with Agrati lugset "ROMA" nr. 000.8020/E/D.
Stronglight 93 chainset is the undesirable early version with the heavy champfer on the arm's distal end. Prone to radial cracks at the pedal hole. Launch was 1967.
Could be Columbus tubing. Have here a Lygie frameset of this pattern with the Campag 1010 ends and a Columbus tubing transfer on the seat tube. It looks to date from right about the same time as this one. In the first photo there is an apparent Columbus transfer on the seat tube. Wheels look as if they may be original; Gnutti QR hubs with FIAMME yellow label rims.

+1. very nice. If it's not Columbus then it's probably a good grade, plain gauge tubeset, such as Falck. Standard operating procedure to confirm Columbus is to determine the seat post sizing and check for helical ridges inside the bottom of the fork's steerer tube.

Thanks guys-not mine yet/still working on a trade +or- deal. Trying to retail as is to what we can work out. Hence the question. Even if it is stovepipe; I like the lines and look of it-and would love to take it to a ride condition once again. No visions of searching out original parts (think the crank would have been cottered and elusive anyway. Wild guesses as to what I should pay? I have offered 150 as a guesstimate retail number as kitted.

$150 sounds good. That B66 is worth a pretty penny all by itself. Does seller have any other of the bicycle's original parts?

Best wishes with it should you elect to proceed. Perhaps you will be able to begin a thread on the project...
Interestingly the Lygie I have which is similar has a Columbus DB transfer & Campag Record hs yet came fitted with a cottered chainset. Suspect it dates from 1964-65. The date is coded in the serial but have not checked it in some time.
The Columbus transfer (if that is what it is!) on the Maino's seat tube looks to be of a foil type which I would think might make it later than the bicycle. So it may be of post manufacture origin.

I'd say $150 is a little high, but not bad. What is the seller asking?
The bike is missing a bunch of stuff:
2 derailleurs
Freewheel
Chain
Brakes
Brake Levers
Shifters
All the cables.
Tires?
Steel rims also knock down my quality expectations a bit.
Of course, that leaves you open to have some fun with the "build", and to perhaps modernize the bike a bit.

Yes, they look like the aluminum Ambrosio rims that came on my 1959 Maino. This looks like a nice bike. Check the rear bub shell width, and see if a 5 speed freewheel can thread on and clear the dropouts. My Maino is a 1x4, with an old Regina 16-22 4 speed freewheel. It has 120mm dropout spacing but the hub shell is wider than 5 speed. We've established that the crank is not original, I guess this could possibly be a 4 speed that someone was trying to make into a ten speed? If that is the case you would need to either get a new rear hub/wheel and finish the job, or convert it back.
Hard to tell from the pictures where the shifters went, or if there are any marks from a FD on the seat tube.
Not to derail the thread but does anyone know anything about Maino's post-WWII history? They seem to have made a lot of neat bikes but there's no information about them.
Does it have an Alessandria decal on it?

Owner said it is 5 speed spaced and that the crank is original. Columbus tubing. There may be hope for me yet! Has orig parts. I will see it thanksgiving built up. Feels like Im on American Pickers/can't get a "I dont want to sell it" price! Originally a craigslist responder to a bike I had up. Wants the ideal tb 90 (flat rail) that was on it.
Wants to talk bikes and setups-but wont give me any prices on his stuff. Not really knowing how to proceed or weather to bail. You can meet the nicest peeps thru cl and then again some real kooks. In any case I will document the outcome here...LOL As the wheel turns...

Possible bicycle may be a contract build done by Rizzato (Atala/Lygie). Lugset same as one employed on this Lygie posted recently to forum.
https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...970-lygie.html
Crown is one frequently employed by Rizzato. Both appear to wear same WAY-Assauto headset.
Here is a contract build done by Rizzato for Maino in 1977. The serial number is on the side of the seat tube; first two digits are year. If bike under discussion has this serial format and placement you will be able to know year.

Still learning
$150 is low IMHO, as a loop frame trumps a garden variety mixte anyday as far as value.

Was looking for a reasonable offer on what I thought was a project bike. Turns out he has the pieces and will build it. Bartering session to follow 24 Nov. I'll start a thread in CV-should it be successful. Appreciate all the info!
