Hi all, I've been eying a PSV-10 up on a local online classifieds. It's been updated with a hodgepodge of newer parts--according to the add, a "Campagnolo Mirage 2x8 drivetrain, Mavic Aksium rear wheel, new Ritchey Logic headset (installed 2016)"--the brakes also appear non-original. Pictures from the add attached.

I'm looking for something lighter and sprightlier than my main ride (a late 90's Cannondale T-500 touring bike) to use for day rides and occasional fast commuting. Since this is meant to be a rider, I'm not bothered by non-original but functional parts.

The bike is currently listed at $325, but is unsold after almost two months. Given all the above, what do you think it is worth?

I have an '83 PSVN10 that I'm selling locally for $350, mostly original except for pedals & saddle.

If you don't care about having the original parts, $325 certainly seems reasonable. The Super Vitus 980 frame rocks.

I would pass due to the unicrown fork replacment. But at $200 it may be worthwhile.

With a replacement fork, you need to worry or be concerned about crash damage.

Good question. I'm running 25's and it looks like plenty of room left but haven't tried.

Most of the value on the PSV is in the frameset. The components original to the bike was middling at best. Upgrading to better and/or newer components is more for personal satisfaction, and will not elevate the value if the bike, as most people would want it as an all original example, being that it certainly qualifies as a classic that was one of the last bike Peugeot made that had mostly French components to match the French tubed frameset.
Unfortunately, the values for PSV'S had been depressed since 5 years ago, when they peaked at around 400ish bucks. Now it is hard to sell even the best examples for the high 200's to 300.
I would pass on this PSV on the basis of the replaced fork alone as the original is superior to that replacement both on aesthetics and most likely, materials used. Supervitus 980 is heat treated, one of the lightest steel tubeset produced in the 80 and had been favorably compared to Reynolds 753. It even has "rifling" reinforcement inside the steerer tube. The original Peugeot fork also had a much nicer looking fork crown than that Unicrowned replacement.
If you really want a PSV, just wait till a reasonably priced, more original example comes alng, as they do pop up......yes the ones at eBay presently, look quite nice, but are way over-priced, IMO.....
BTW, I forgot to mention, if you are looking for a "sprightlier" bike than your Cannondale, the PSV will not be the right bike for you, as the SV980 frame is quite flexy. The PSV is not for explosive type sprinting or criterium type racing. It more for mostly straight, high speed, long distance smooth spinning. it is also an excellent climber espec8ally if you are a lightweight (maybe 140ish pounds), but you will still have to get used to some front derailleur chain rub on harder/steeper climbs.......
