pug value?

Just got this in a second hand shop in town. Is it worth anything? Only reason I got was because all the parts looked high quality. Paid £38.80

If that were in the states I'd say it would sell in an instant for $200. Especially if I knew about it. Miamijim would be better at assigning a value than me, but Reynolds 531, alloy bars, Campy, Stronglight all speak for themselves. That looks like one really nice Peugeot.

thanks rocco. hopefully miamijim can help. Does anyone know what model this is?

Hard to say - the component group is decidedly a big mish-mash (and I wonder what it was used for, considering the 40t ring on the outside!), but it is quality throughout.

I'd say that it would bring - cleaned and tuned up (preferably with new rings of a significantly saner gear ratio) - somewhere around $250-300 on eBay. However, if you are not entirely familiar with packing a bike (Google it if you've never done so before - it is more indepth then you think), or if you are not entirely sure about the packing job your local shop does - I would defer to local sale on Craigslist, or eBay local pick up - figure in a decrease of 20% in the value for the latter.

In the States a 531Pro frameset was never available individualy but it was available as complete bike, the PZ10. A PZ10 with 531Pro in black with that decal scheme was available from '84-'87 and would have had a complete Campagnolo Super Record group.

In the 1985 U.K. catalog the 531Pro framed bicycle was equipted with a combination of Frances finest components from the time, including Stronglight cranks and Simplex derailleurs. In the U.K. this bike has the 'PY' designation...PY10LS. Odds are, yours is NOT a 1985 model because the U.K. model still used the set screw for retaining the seatpost.

IMHO your bike is worth about the same regardless of it being complete or parted out. I'm going to bump up Kurts (cudak888) estimate a touch to say $300-400 (in the U.S.) only because I've seen a few similar bikes/framesets with the standard 531DB tubing go for more.

The hodge podge mix of components really kills its value as a complete bike.

Remember, we're only guessing based on past sales...NOT future sales.

To reach miamijim's estimate, you might want to wait until the spring. This is the time when I troll ebay because there are so many bargains. Most folks are just not thinking about bikes so the number of bidders is smaller hence the bargains. It's your call.

+1 I have started seeing bargains on ebay as well. Probably a combination of the economy and the weather. Craig List bargains are popping up as well. This also means selling something around here right now either requires luck or a low price.

jimjim79 12-24-08 04:18 AM

guess i should wait for the weather to improve. thanks again
