1993 specialized epic

Just found this on craigslist

https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/bik/1353986757.html

I don't know anything more about the bike than what's in the ad - would any of you consider this a good deal, esp. assuming I can probably haggle it down some?? It's around my size, but I won't be in the same geographic area as it until Sunday so who knows if I'll ever even get a chance to test ride it. Looks nice to me other than the color scheme, anyway.

That frame has carbon tubes with aluminum lugs and an aluminum fork. It isn't as desirable as a steel frame from the same era. They have some reputation for the frames coming apart at the lugs. Make sure you check for corrosion around the lugs or for any cracks anywhere.

The rx100 components are nice. They are mechanically exactly like Shimano 105 components but they have a different finish.

It would be a decent bike though, and I would maybe try offering $250 for it.

I know two fellas riding those older carbon fiber bikes and both love them. One of them is the same, Epic frame you're looking at.
That's a seriously nice bike in a hot bike market (Philly) at a very fair price. If you are serious about buying it, don't wait. You can offer $250, but I'll bet the seller gets asking price for it in less than a week.

What about this one? Doesn't say what model it is, just some notes on the parts?

I'm still trying to educate myself on...well, bikes. I can so far tell junk from not junk (most of the time...I think...) but that's about it.

That cannondale is a nice bike too. It's probably from around '87 give or take a year or two. The components are 6 speed whereas the components on the specialized are 7 speed. But that doesn't really matter too much.

Those old cannondale frames are stiff, which yields a fairly harsh ride. If you're looking for a bike to take on longer rides that specialized will definitely be more comfortable (assuming they both fit you equally well). But the Cannondale will probably feel faster upon first riding impression.
