Value on an 84 Cinelli Equipe (Centurion)
 

I have a Cinelli Equipe (Centurion) that I purchased new in about 1989. I got it from the original owner, and have changed nothing. My son used it for a while and decided that he didn't like the Centurion decal on the frame. He very carefully (thank god) removed the decal with fine steel wool. The paint is fine where the decal was. He also removed the lavender leather bar covering and did a poor job of taping the bars. I'll fix that. The bike has all the original parts and is in very good condition as you can see from the pictures. Any help in putting a value on this classic would be appreciated!! It's a tough market for that bike. You have the frame, which is great, and you've removed the horrible lavendar decals, which were the only thing Centurion about it.

With it's mix of Universal AER brake set (fine set, too), Ofmega Mistral crankset, bb, and headset, and Campy NR other stuff, it tends to turn off some folks. However, they are all great components, work together well, and I like the bike.

Mine was probably a little cleaner than yours, but your non-Centurion decals are probably better. I paid $356, sold it for quite a bit more, and now it's Ferrari Enzo red with the fork all chrome. I'll have $1100 in it with a full 1989 Chorus group. I'm going to peg yours at $700-$800 as the market for that Cinelli-branded frame gets steadily better. More if you sell it on eBay, but it needs to be spic and span.

Did you sell this bike?

If you're asking me, yes, and now I've got it back for the complete re-do, including paint, decals, and group. I don't know about the OP's bike. If it was 56cm, I'd be highly interested. I'd put an 8-sp Chorus Ergo group on it and ride like a maniac, maybe strip the fork to the chrome.

You really think $700-$800? I definitely believe it's comparable to bikes selling for those prices, but I simply don't think there's that kind of market for it, especially with the eclectic build Centurion spec'd. I'm curious now what you sold yours for, because my guess would be $500-$600 in excellent shape, and probably toward the lower end of that.

Or did you browse the photo album? It very well could be a 56cm.
