Please help ID old Peugeot bike, PIC heavy

Hello everyone,

I bought this bike new in Mannhiem Germany in 1996, I still have the original receipts and paid 400 for this thing back then. This is my second one like this as the first one I bought over there was stolen 2 days after I bought it. I loved it so much I bought the last one they had at the store there a week later. I would really like some help Identifying this thing. Is this a high end Peugeot? Whats something like this worth nowadays? It is ALL original except the seat and innertubes. I still have the original seat as well. Heres all the info I could find on the bike.

Lower Sticker under crank: Augustin M

Stamped under crank: Y202 24528

Sticker on Tube Lower: PE200, CUA57WR A , 510088083175

Crank: StrongLight 185

Shifters: Shimano SIS Light Action FRic M5 Stamp

Rear Derailer says: Shimano SIS

Shifter stamped on back: SL-S434

Front Hub: Sealed Mech Exage HB-RM50

Rear Hub: Sealed Mech Exage FH-HG50

Tires: Vittorin Roma 22

Sticker on Rims: Rigida 13/20, 700c, 13x622, Din Birto

Pedals are stamped Made in France

Brakes Front and rear: CLB Omega R

Simplex stamped onto the frame above the rear derailer


The bike bar is about 32 inches high from the floor

the middle bar of the bike is about 20 1/4 inches from the top of the crank to the bottom of the middle bar.

Bike is roughly 66 1/2 inches long from tire to tire

PE200 Tourmalet

PBS, Peugeot Direct Brazing system

But seriously, this bike is most likely a mid to late 90s Peugeot Tourmatlet. Don't think that this version was ever sold in the US though. Looks to be a very nice solid looking bike. Definitely a "keeper"!

Based on that car I see on the first picture I assume that you are in the US.

That was probably a mid-entry level for the era. Depending on the market, I would say about $250-300 (with the original saddle). The fact that it is an import and not available to the US, is a good thing in this case. The size is a good size and looks like a great rider.

Early 90's, maybe '92 or '93. PE=Performance. The PE200 Tourmalet would be an entry level road bike with nice sport bike/road racing geometry.

Date codes off the hubs and derailleurs will narrow down the date.

I know the question sounds stupid, obviously its a tourmalet. But im asking if its a PH10 PX10 etc. I am in the US, but I brought this back from Germany with me. I was under the impression that they stopped making these bikes in 1989 so I figured mine was left over from 1989. Would love to get more info on this thing but every site I look at goes to 1989. I posted the serial number in hopes someone could confirm the year. Mid to late 90s, possible as I bought it in 1995. I said 1996 earlier but I just checked the receipt and it was bought June 1995 from AAFES (which is a US military store). SO Peugeot did continue to make bikes past 1989 and into the mid to late 90s? If not where can I get more info especially on this one? Where do I look for the date codes on hubs and derailers? BTW I love this forum and wish I would of found is years ago

About those date codes...

here is an example:

April 1988 Shimano FD



that "MD" is the date code.

Look for a 2 letter code on you Shimano parts (brake levers might be the easiest) and then go here to decipher them.

This is going to sound off but what you've posted in regards to its specifications is probably more than what you'd find in a catalog. Sometimes Peugeot didnt print alot of info on their bikes. In regards to production, Peugeot production has been continuous since 1882 and they continue to make bikes in France today. Through the 90's and mid 2000's Peugeot of France had various licensing agrrements through out the world and actualy sold off/licensed their bicycle division for a period of time. Your bike is one of the 'Cycle Europe' products from the early 90's. Aorund '90/'91 Peugeot of France, 'Cycles Peugeot' pulled out the U.S. due to financial difficulties and sold licensing/manufacturing rights to ProCycle in Canada. That deal expired in 2004?

On the back of the derialleurs you'll find 2 very small letters which refer to month and year of production. On the hubs near the spokes holes you'll find 2 small letters as well.

Using Peugeots alphanumeric terminology your bike would be a 'PE200'.

I found the Date codes on the FD and the RD. Also found a Date code on the original seat.

FD= PC FD-ty20 This should be Mar 1991

RD= OL RD-R552 This should be DEC 1990

Couldnt find any codes on the Hubs.

On the bottom of the seat theres a circle with various letters around it, in the center is a large 91.

Thanks to everyone I now know i have more info on a bike I have always loved and enjoyed riding The last ride i was on with her was for Muscular Dystrophy back in 04. 150 Mile ride and it was great.

I was thinking of selling it once you guys said what it was worth, but got to thinking. I cant bring myself to do it. Remembering all the good rides I had on her made me think heck, guess ill go ride her some this summer.

Hopefully one day Ill meet others on here with one like mine

No reason to sell it unless you're really strapped for cash. Unless there's something mechanically wrong with it, it should be a fine bike. Should you find something better, maybe this thing funds it. but that bike has a history with you, that's always kind of nice.

ite the late 1990s and early 1991 component date codes, the OP's bicycle is at least a 1992 model on the basis of the logo style. It is a slightly downgraded version of the Peugeot Sprint model offered in North America for $399 US.

The hub date codes should be stamped on the outside of one the flanges. They are located between the holes and may be partially obscured by spokes. It's very curious that the bicycle was bought new, yet uses Z-series shift levers from the late 1980s.

Thank you for a little more info as well T-Mar, i do remember that the only 2 Puegeots they had were this exact setup and color. I owned em both, one was stolen
After I bought the one posted above, it was the last Peugeot they sold there and on top of that I have never seen another like it.
