Vintage Bianchi

Hey,

First time poster here, but I was wondering if I could get any information on this bike. I'm mostly looking for the date and an appraisal.

Also, I have more pictures of specific parts. I can upload those if it will help.

Thanks in advance.

$400, maybe a bit more. Nice Columbus frame, nice group. Saddle can probably be dyed again and polished, stem could be better if it was polished instead of black, but I'd say $400 in this market, go up a bit from there. Better later on in the spring.

Thanks for the quick reply. There is some chipping on the paint. Do you think a repaint would be worth it?

Don't repaint it. Most of the time it is a money losing situation if you repaint a bike. Touch up is cool if it is very very minimal. Otherwise just clean it and wax it.

A repaint will cost you serious money and lower the bike's value. Its a non-starter when you have pretty decent original paint and decals. Do a search on touchup paint. On some paint jobs, like my Colnago, I just use clear nail polish to protect the steel, but not interfere with the stock/original paint.

+10 That stem needs to go. A polished alloy stem is the way to go.

what is the frame and fork made of? judging from the Ergo shifters and Monoplanor brakes, which appear to be Chorus as there is no name on them, I would say '94 / 95

With a new saddle? $600 here in Toronto, no doubt about it.

Did Bianchi make internally routed brake line frames that late?

According to the guy I bought the bike from, everything from the stem up was added aftermarket. As were the clip-less pedals. He did these modifications to make it race worthy. From my own research, I would've put the frame in the mid-eighties. Would any pictures of specific parts help the sleuthing?

How about a list of the parts that were original and a picture of the columbus ST sticker. If there are Shimano or Suntour parts, those have day codes, so that might help. Also, what is the model name? (you might want to take a picture of that scrip on the TT)

That "A 1182" (and there might be a couple of numbers before it or stamped elsewhere, indicating the size) might indicate that you have a 1991 frame made in Italy (which is more consistent with an internal brake cable routing on the TT)

I'm going to venture this is an 89 or 90 Speciallissima or SuperLeggera. Very similar to the supposed SuperLeggera I have in the basement. The chromed chain and set stays, the internally routed rear brake cable, the style of the graphics and the chromed 'sloped' (there must be a specific name for it) chrome fork (perhaps with the same columbus SL sticker on them as on mine?) are all consistent with the one I have. Also, based on headset, derrailleurs and brakes, mine appears to have been originally equipped with a flull Chorus groupset, which would be consistent with the Chorus components you've found.

That said, I've never seen a catalog or had someone show any concrete data to confirm my understanding, and I would be happy to have someone set the record straight. In any case, though you may have a little restoration/replacement work ahead (for one - I am almost certain that stem and those bars are not original) be assured you have the bones of one fine ride in your hands. Enjoy!

Just read the posts again...When BianchiGirl says 94 / 95 I give it credence, tho I'd thought that Chorus may have been from a year or two earlier...
