80's-ish Peugeot

I stumbled across this bike (really, that's how these things happen) and I am absolutely blown away by the shape that it is in. I put it in a stand and ran through all the gears and brakes and wheels, and everything worked flawlessly! The only problem is I don't know what I am going to do with it.

Here is what I know about the bike.
It is 58cm from BB to top of seat tube. It is an early 80's, maybe? Simplex downtube shifters, Shimano 600 (present day equivalent Ultegra) pedals and front derailleur; Dia Comp brake levers; the rear derailleur is Shimano Crane (present day equiv Dura Ace); crankset is 170mm Sugino; Cinelli; saddle and the brakes are (I forget now, but starts with an 'm' and ill insert here when found).

Wheels are 700c Mavic tubulars with brand new tubies, and even a spare. Bars have to be originally wrapped because they are leather stitched onto the bar and perfectly match up with the tapered edge near the stem. Saddle also must be original as it bears some foreign seal and is also leather.

The only thing I have done to the bike is replace the cables (not the housing because that too is orginal and matches the frames color ) and raised the saddle.

So What To Do?
What model and how much is something like this worth? I know this thing is of some collectible value, but I am not a collector.

I don't really know what to expect. All I know is this is not a fixie conversion worthy bike.

Thanks, Steve

Hard to tell without a picture of the tube sticker, but because of the chromed fork, it looks like an 1981 PXN10, rather than an 1981 PKN10, in metalic blue. Are there any letters by the brake cable line guide closer to the saddle on the top tube?

531 frame and fork. Some nice upgrades over the original Simplex drivetrain. You should not convert it into a fixie :) Ride it if it fits. I'd say the value is around $400 or so (perhaps more on a place like ebay). This is a great bike. Use it :)

Steve, I think that you should sell it to me for $50. I'll come pick it up tonite. ;)

What kind of tubing does it have? I can see that it's Vitus, but which one?

First off I am definitely not selling this to a t-sip ;)

There is a name on the top tube near the saddle but it is kinda rubbed away. I know it starts with a "P" and believe the next couple letter are "u" and "r", so "Pur" or the like.

Fyi, I am not looking to convert this or sell it because it does fit me and already have a Peugot that was like this in Maroon (Gig 'Em) :thumb: and fixed it. This one is staying as it and may just work as my coffee shop commuter or something...

Could be part of "Super Competition"? That would mean that it is a PXN10. Also, is there a sticker on the seat tube that says what material is the frame?

The listing is still on the College Station CL. Did you buy it or are you selling it?

The thought of driving to Aggy-land tonite was kind of repulsive anyway. Maroon has to be the ugliest ugly color out there.

Hook 'em!

The Vitus decal on the downtube by the shifters makes it a PFN10. It looks like the front fork and front wheel have been replaced. Other than that it appears to be a nice bike. The toptube decal probably says 'Competition'.

Value? In Tampa I'd advertise it for $225 on CL.

I'll bet that it's a replacement fork.

A smart man wouldnt take that bet. But at least its not French threaded anymore....

$200 +/-, depending on mechanical condition. I sold a 1983 PFN-10 last week with an odd replacement fork, in not as nice condition, but pretty decent shape, for less than that. It kind of looks like your replacement fork has canti brake braze ons.

I really do not consider a 1980s PFN 10 to be a collectable bike. It is a rider. And the lack of original parts makes it even less collectable.
